Hundreds brave the weather in search of the perfect brew

About 500 participants braved the heat and humidity to sample beer from 24 different brewers at the Rivertown Hops beer fest in Columbia on Saturday. Brewers and food trucks lined Locust Street from Second to Fifth in downtown Columbia from 12 to 4 p.m.

Live entertainment included Mississippi blues group Anthony “Big A” Sherrod & the Cornlickers and the nationally known group Ton-Taun.

The event was sponsored by the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Council President Kelly Murphy and Councilman Cle Berntheizel attended to show their support for downtown Columbia.

24 brewers set up shop on Locust Street Saturday afternoon.

Heard that true count on attendance was aroutdoor 300 & they had a thousand tickets. That would only make it an OK event with only a third of the tickets sold

You must have not attended. There were over 500 people there. There were 700 tickets printed. Seems to me that's a very good execution of an event. The attendees said the same. Bravo to the organizers! Hope they do it again next year.

haha, don't let them fool you. murphy and berntheizel are THEE BIGGEST spenders. they won't be happy until the entire $8.6 million from the sale of the sewer plant is entire ly gone. most likely, by the end of THIS year. people, wake up!!!

The money if not by end of year, then early next year.just watch.

someone hit that nail on the head! i agree. spend, spend, spend. is ANYONE on council paying attention???

Anonymous said...

No One on council will stand up to the powers to be.

All who are bitching about council spending should instead be concerned about the school tax and their spending. In case you need a reminder, council has not raised taxes in 8 years with council president Murphy as finance chair for all of those years.

What is doing to happen when the LASA money runs dry (pending a recession happens again), and no revenue to pay for all the salaries such as the lucrative police budget.

An increase is inevitable in the next 3-4 years to keep up by raising costs of operations. The sewer plant revenue has disappeared and expenditures will consume the interest and revenues of the current Columbia Budget Plan (if there is one in existence).

Kelly has done a great job on not increasing the Borough tax, but has placed himself in a rehearsed plan to separate himself from the public. It is not about a group who meets to discuss Columbia's future. It is about my family's future in Columbia, and about being transparent and let me know what how you (Councilors) can make me comfortable in the future. Stop doing small things, and do big things to impact my life in Columbia.

well said. i agree. no one goes to school board mtgs. they MUST consolidate the schools. period. we, working class can NOT afford to keep all these transients and the schools afloat. not sure why NO ONE on the baord gets it.

I keep hearing talk about lost sewer plant revenue yet the sewer plant revenue never supplemented the general fund so with or without the plant it never helped pay the police budget.

And things really haven't improved in last eight years either. Status quo. Did anyone think to thank the Boro management staff and managers for preparing the budget.

Murphy needs to be independent as President.
Fact is he is not.
Promises, promises.
President of Council is a stepping stone.

Hmmmm....it is part of their job. Believe me, they don't do ONE thing more than they are required to. Have you called the borough lately? Like within the past 15 years? Nobody tells you who they are when they answer the phone. Why? Because they don't have to! They are thanked every time they cash their paycheck. Most of them are overpaid, doing jobs that don't require a college degree.
