Overturned truck shuts down westbound lanes of Route 30 near Columbia
A tractor-trailer overturned and came to rest in the median of Route 30 near Columbia, snarling mid-day traffic in the area Wednesday. The westbound lanes of Route 30 were shut down for the accident which was reported at 12:03 p.m. just west of the Malleable Road overpass. The truck, which was pulling an empty trailer, was initially on its side and the driver was trapped inside, according to emergency dispatches. Recent photos of Columbia (Click/tap on photos to see larger, sharper images.) Musicians jammed again this past Thursday at 4th & Locust (Columbia Presbyterian). Unfortunately, this was the last such outdoor concert this season but not necessarily due to weather. The borough is shutting them down due to noise complaints. A source tells Columbia Spy that they will move indoors at the church. ******************************** Tree cutters attacked the old sycamore again this week. It's being removed to make room for a Majik Appliance store at 921 Lancaster Avenue. At the October 26, 2021 Columbia Borough Council meeting, Councilman Todd Burgard said the tree has historical significance to the borough and that he wanted it to be protected. Unfortunately, the tree was already slated to be cut down to make space for the new appliance store building. Mayor Leo Lutz said it's a grand, old tree and he'd love to see it stay, but that it could present problems in the future. ...
