How can they be outraged? Why aren't the patrolling these parks? They turn a blind eye to the trouble. Kids can't even shoot hoops at Rotary as the thugs are taking over. Do they ever stop and see what's going on? Get out on your bikes and get involved. Parents do not care where their teens are as long as they are out of the house. Good kids have no where to go. There are aged bullies and now their kids are bullies. Same last name for generations destroying property and scaring other kids.

If and when they catch the criminals, have them clean the parks for a year, every week, wearing uniforms saying I created this mess and apologize in public at the Park gazebo. If they are juveniles publish their names. Residents have flowers pulled out of flower boxes, empty cups, bottles and wrappers thrown in gutters. A few make it look bad for the majority that take care of their properties.

Good idea!!! Just like the Sheriff in Arizona!! Call them out and make them stand out!!!

wonder if constables or sheriffs would volunteer time to patrol the parks for a few hrs every eve or even just a few days? IF the police would have the normal 4 officers on EACH shift, they'd have the manpower to patrol parks, etc. unless of coursem theres some serious issue going on somewhere else. but with normally 2 officers on a shift, it's UNSAFE for one officer to patrol.

I went to Makle Park on Friday morning August 12 and found trash scattered around. I picked it up and after I took a picture, I threw it in the trash can. I did place one orange shirt, that was in good condition, over the back of a bench. Drove through Saturday evening at 6:30 and there was a group of about a dozen young people playing basketball. Next morning trash strewn all over again. Steps from two trash cans that were no where near full. I sent this information to Mayor Lutz.

Seriously, we are paying dearly for police. It takes a few minutes to drive through and if kids are there, get out and talk to them about the problems. Put a little pressure on them. The whole town is under three square miles, I'm sure the police can respond quickly from all areas of Columbia.

It's not just the parks anymore, streets, homes everywhere.
0 Tolerance needs to take place, if under age hold the youth and both parents responsible.
Night after night after night, I watch good kids, punks kids, punk kids with their own parents instigating bad behavior, adults, drug addicts and drunks.
This town is over ran.
I don't feel there is a solution at all anymore.
Stay in your house, lock your doors and be a prisoner.
Very sad day...
One solution, get out of DODGE, or stand up for what's right!
Report welfare frauds, code please stay on top of all the rentals, and call the police everyday five times a day if you need to!
It's Property Owners tax dollars, use them.

It is time to take back the streets from these hoodlums. Enforce the laws and punish to full extent of law.

Now they are all over town chasing Pokémon!

i agree!!! past time to take back our town. start by removing 600 rental properties from the boro. turn them back into single family owned homes. give em a tax break or something. IT HAS TO STOP. people are still buying homes in columbia and renting them out. it has to stop.

When you look at the deed transactions in the Sunday paper,. the only thing you see are partnership and alphabet agencies buying homes in Columbia Columbia. Who are these groups? Our borough leaders have got to enforce code issues.Throw the slumlords out by enforcing the codes.

Let the Pokémon Players go, like all other troubles we endure, there is going and BAD!
Take the streets back and stand up against welfare fraud, drug abuse, harrassment, code violations and law breakers!!!
One suggestion to police department,,,, listen before you judge or accuse.
Yes this is aimed at a Wednesday Night incidence, excuse me?
No excuse you, boldly interrupt a conversation, not aware of property lines or who owns what.
No hard feelings but remember your hired to do your job, not Judge.

Do like they do in some states, if you collect welfare or assistance, drug test the people. If they fail,no money. Also, make them do community service. Again, the people that are out there looking for work, I wish them good luck,at least you are putting forth the effort.

Whether you like it or not, you can't do that (as Florida found out):

" A federal appeals court ruled in December that the state's mandatory, suspicionless drug testing of applicants in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF, program is an unconstitutional violation of Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable searches and seizures by the government. After the ruling, Scott decided to walk away from the lawsuit."

And can we get an article on the drag race held the 100 block of South Second Street? Victims need answers and so do their insurance agents.
