ADA to nowhere?

At tonight's council meeting, a citizen mentioned this ADA sidewalk access leading to . . . railroad tracks? The structure is located at a pedestrian crossing at Front and Walnut and is part of the Route 441 bypass project.

Ada to know where is put in by the contractor per state specs! If u ride threw lancaster county(district 8) you will see it everywhere! I do road construction and question alot of these, future plans maybe!!

It is actually for the sidewalk that runs along the new 441 bypass and leads to the rail trail at the end. you can see the sidewalk on the right side of the picture.

There's no sidewalk on that side of the road. The paved area shown above ends abruptly on the right, just beyond the edge of the photo. And to make it even more surreal, a small section of fence has now been added.

If people (using the new trail) park in the Riverpark area, they will have to cross route 441 twice to access the trail. Once, at the railroad entrance to riverpark and then again at Bridge Street. There is no sidewalk on the railroad side of 441 because people would be walking within inches of the tracks.
