Columbia Borough is currently collating information on properties with sewer liens, with an eye towards collecting on those debts. Since Lancaster Area Sewer Authority (LASA) recently assumed responsibility for collecting quarterly sewer fees, regular billing will no longer be done by the borough.
Columbia Spy has obtained information through a Right-to-Know request on properties, owners, and outstanding lien amounts. Several liens have accumulated interest, and some are over 10 years old. According to the document PROPERTIES WITH LIENS 11/10/15 provided by the borough office, lien amounts total $14,810.66, with the total amount due with fees listed as $35,189.94. It was noted at last Monday's Columbia Borough Council meeting that total uncollected fees eight years ago were $150,000.
The document below lists current outstanding liens, with individual amounts and totals. 47 properties are listed.
Columbia Spy has redacted names, addresses, and account numbers at this time.

Golly GEE GOMER,,,,
Should know who these people are
LASA OWNS the sewer in the Boro now. The Boro is DONE with sewer for it STUPIDLY AND IRRESPONSIBLY SOLD THE SEWER TO LASA.
ya know, maybe the few people that are trying their damndest to promote Columbia should have donation jars around town at some of the little shops...maybe ALL these out of staters who come spend money here would see fit to throw in a few dollars or a 5 or 10. Use this money to help support ALL these cool things that are being done!!!!! thank you to those of you who truly LOVE Columbia!
We do not need collection jars, what we need is for these property owners to pay up. I have had to pay my sewer bill all along, even when times were very tough. We all suffer when others don't pay.
Why are the out of staters responsible?
Exactly!!!
What in the heck does this have to do with delinquent sewer bills? Lots of people wanting to do "cool things" for Columbia, have their hand out. If people that owe money to the Borough pay, it can only help, so what's the beef?
sorry i think we need everyone to pay their bill too! that was just another thought...trying to make Columbia a nice place again!
Maybe if names are published it would shame them into paying their bills.
I get that idea, but some people do fall on hard times and shaming them only would make matters worse. On the other hand, others that can pay and choose not too, should be shamed.
You make no sense in this comment about putting jars out! Those out of staters you are talking about are spending money in town to help keep the town a live...
People should pay there bills and not look for hand outs to pay for someone else pleasures...
Off topic....WTHeck!
Stay on topic not add non sense to this blog...
That is correct shaming those who can't afford to pay the bills since they have fallen on hard times is not cool. Help them with assistance or payment plans they can afford For those who have and refuse to pay and rather spend money on things like TV's, beer, cigs, expensive clothes & jewelry, drugs, etc should be held accountable. Put leans against their properties garnish wages etc!
hey knucklehead YOU stay on topic. seriously???? you ARE NONSENSE. bahaha
