What surprises me the most is columbia police actually filing charges. Of course West Hempfield was involved so that generally means shits getting done. I know first hand accounts of police responding to numerous calls about repeat offenders near my own home...and did they document anything?...Not once! No records of any calls, no action taken. I'll believe charges when I see them. ...especially charges against the minor. Garunteed unless West Hempfield pushes it, columbia police will sit on their asses laughing about it. Not only is that negligence, but not reporting possible violent 911 calls is down right dangerous. If Columbia police actually did their jobs, patrolled as they should, and took appropriate action...the instance in this article wouldve been prevented. The fact that an additional related issue occurred right after is pathetic and embarrassing. Columbia police really need to reevaluate themselves or step down if they don't plan to protect the people they serve.
On another note, if I was forced to pull over by a gang of kids (carrying who knows what weapons with who knows what intent ) I would've pulled out more than a knife. Good for him for protecting his family and standing his ground. Flag is our history, get over it.
I agree about the charges. The youths responsible for the tire slashing and window smashing haven't been charged yet. And they admitted they did it. Without charges restitution will not be ordered, essentially revictimizing the victims.

Have you ever walked a day in a Police Officers shoes? I'm sure you didn't because then you wouldn't be making STUPID remarks. Maybe you should get off of Welfare and apply to the Boro for one of their Officers jobs when they open up and see what a Police Officers goes thru in a 12 hour day, collecting Welfare is not a hard job. First off, all I mentioned is factual. The 2 of us above are giving factual evidence. So "STUPID" makes no sense as a description. Secondly, where in anything above do you get that someone is on welfare? Both comments are clear and eloquent, i.e. educated,...i.e. have money to afford schooling...you get my drift. But to clarify, I'm actually a hard working home owner and would NEVER work for the borough! Police are great when they do their jobs, but they have not been. The fact you state "welfare collection" as your validity to our police doing their jobs pretty much proves the point that they need to re-evaluate themselves. Are you a police officer? I assume you are due to your defensiveness. If so, take this as constructive criticism. Also, read all the other comments and start to do your job. If not, conduct yourself better and stop being so childish. This is a respectable website don't trash it up. Calling an adult a "SPOILED BAWL BABY" and using slang such as "thru" makes your comment not respectable or taken seriously. And although I was laughing whIle I read your comment, I felt inclined to respond appropriately. However, being the mature grown up I am, regardless of any additional angry and petty feedback, I will not respond. agree. landlords SHOULD do background checks and whatever else they can do! it IS out of towners. and also, I do believe that the Police Officers ONLY DO WHAT THEY ARE TOLD AND ALLOWED. TAKE THIS TO THE CHIEF AND MAYOR. NOT THE OFFICERS! After all, we ALL have a Supervisor whom we answer to (if we work for a living) Wouldn't it be awesome IF people WOULD step up and go to the next Council Mtg and demand answers from the Chief and Mayor??? After all dummies, we are paying dearly for the services which on the most part i too feel are overburdened with tenants, renters and people who just don't give a damn.
ya know, its not like it used to be. there are hundreds and hundreds of rental properties now...maybe even a thousand. thats the problem. and parents today don't want to be parents...just like to collect all the free money and benefits!
