Much ado about "NOTHING"?

The answer is NEITHER, when it's done behind closed doors.

I think you are correct- behind closed doors.

We are not the morality police. At least this is a business that brings in revenue and theoretically pays taxes.

Maybe our current TPTB need to look at ways to generate revenue rather than constantly looking to homeowners and businesses to fund their own agendas.

Who knows? Maybe our TPTB can have a fundraiser - Would anyone pay to see them in pasties and a thong?

Ouch - what an image! No one would pay to see them in such attire, and they should keep their noses (blue as they are) out of the business of those who folks would pay to see.
Our powers-that-be must stop being hostile towards businesses, even those they don't like.

I'm torn on this one, part of me thinks the club is an eyesore and a bit trashy but it has been here a very long time. I haven't heard anything too bad about it over the years. However I cannot imagine it bringing anyone good into the borough. Columbia already has several sex offenders living here. Check Megan's Law website.

Cole, it appears its ok to have people walk down the streets with their pants down around their ankles and show underwear , butt crack or more!!!!!! and its no problem. I just think its a slow day in Columbia and people need something to bitch about until the next big thing comes up. I said it before and I will say it again. I have been past the club many times and you never see disrespect trickle out the doors. Windows taped, doors shut, noise down. Its been there forever, but the powers to be or think to be.. are scrambling to save their image by making a new ordinance. It seems ordinances get made up as they go to suit their own agendas or axes that they need to grind! The town needs to focus on more important positive things to bring people in town, not keep drawing the black eyes.... I just do not get it! Sincerely Interlash

I really don't care about the decision either way as it doesn't affect me directly. However, I do see that it would bring more vehicular traffic to an already over crowded residential neighborhood. I believe this decision was more about how the neighborhood would be negatively impacted rather than what really goes on inside. Just my opinion....

You're right. Some see this as a victory for Columbia, but it's another self-inflicted wound.

The Zoning Board did nothing except uphold the Code as it is written for the Borough of Columbia and that of the PA State Supreme Court. Doing anything else would have been a slippery slope. Have you driven up Routes 11 and 15 lately and the corridor of adult entertainment? Its just what we in the boro would need to spur the redevelopment of the community. Get real!

I understand your points about traffic and the neighborhood being impacted, but don't the same concerns apply to some of the other bars in town?

I understand why the club holds a negative image for some. The prostitution scandal didn't help its rep, but the place has been under new management for a while. I don't know if the issue of local sex offenders is relevant to this particular issue, but people like that do require a lot of scrutiny due to their high recidivism rates.

hello doesn't anyone read the articles anymore??? negative impact? oh YES....patrons urinating on peoples houses, sidewalks, alleyways, etc. and trash strewn all over the place.bottles, cans, etc.

Joe Lintner said...

Again, don't these concerns apply to any bar in town?

Some of the comments here are too strange for me. This business is not in a business district. It is right next to homes. Are some here thinking that they would like to raise a family next to a nude dancing place? It must be that these comments are coming from non-family people.
Additionally, this business does not bring the kind of "customers" our town would like to see. Statistically, customers of these businesses require more arrests then other businesses which will cost all residents more money.

I see your point, but I don't think things would escalate in that neighborhood. In other words, the zoning board allowing a variance wouldn't necessarily give rise to a crop of porn shops.
And you're right - the board upheld the code, but don't they have the authority to render a decision based on the merits and particulars of each case?
Also, if their decision is based on code, why did they allow a hearing where residents voiced their objections on moral grounds? Is the board attempting to enforce morality while hiding behind a cloak of legality?

I agree that this type of business does not belong in a neighborhood, but due to poor oversight (or lack thereof) by previous borough officials, we're stuck with having it there. We can't blame the club for those mistakes. Do customers of these businesses really require more arrests than other businesses? Have there been more arrests at this club than at the sports bar down the street or at the old Dugout or Lazy K or Nicky Dietz's?

When I read in the paper where it said that the only places where this kind of thing would be allowed are in general industrial areas"in the extreme east or west" parts of the Boro- all I could do was breathe a sigh of relief that the old Columbia Drive In site is beyond the Boro limits@!! Cant you just imagine a titty bar right off the bybass?? Wow! That would put us on the map for sure...
Anyway the Drive In Site is going up for auction next week and even though it is out of the boro; I sure hope someone has some cash and some dreams will do something here to get something decent going that would revitalize this area - like was mentioned before- a driving range or a new bowling alley or miniature golf or whatever. And what is this I hear that Sheetz has bought the area right off the Prospect Rd exit that was going to become a Round the Clock diner before they backed out a few years back? I hear it is going to be a big project.

Yes, I pictured nude dancers strutting their stuff on the factory floor at Anvil, or maybe Colonial Metals, when the article mentioned industrial areas. I wonder what that would do for production rates.
I share your hopes for the drive-in site, but I have a bad feeling it'll become a strip mall - as if we need another one.
What's the latest on the Prospect Road site? I'd heard something about a Sheetz but haven't heard anything since.

Strip mall not strip club...

I have lived in this neighborhood my entire life, and the issues that you noted, didn't go away for the years that the club was not in operation. Those problems exist aside from the club because a strong majority of folks in the neighborhood and their children simply do not care what the place looks like or how it is perceived.
