Columbia Borough Council took the wastewater treatment plant problem and the need to comply with clean water regulations in an entirely different direction Monday by asking Lancaster Area Sewer Authority for a proposal to purchase the entire system.
The 5-1 vote to turn to LASA came in response to concerns raised by residents that the solution favored by the municipal authority — refurbishing the plant — was expensive and short-sighted.

repeatedly by ONE resident.......out of more than 10,000.........shame on them for even entertaining the 1 that didn't attend any of the open public mtgs for the past 5 years
IF you did ur homeowrk the cost for both options are in the same ball park -and you'd realize it doesn't make sense to go with LASA and NOT own our sewer plant.....maybe mountville residents should be asking LASA WHY they are paying more for their sewer than the big huge laundramat??? i'd want to know!
Moving on from comments associated with the last name that rhymes with "ritz" - Mountville friend commented LASA rates are way lower than ours.
Overheard comment in local store- "if we keep the plant, how much will our rates rise then?"
do your OWN homeowrk.....LASA rates are NOT what you think they are.
we want our own plant. not interested in LASA
did u attend any of these mtgs?? LASA could care less about columbia..the ONLY reason they r showing ANY interest is because of additional new hookups in West Hempfield and possibly some other locale.....DO YOUR HOMEWORK......LASA does NOT care about us never will and NO ur rates will NOT be lower......AND WHEN LASA HAS TO UPGRADE NEXT YEAR WHO IN THE HECK DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO PAYING FOR IT?????? IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE...BUILD A NEW PLANT OR UPGRADE OUR OWN SEWER PLANT....it would be the most stupid thing this boro could do. say NO to LASA.
this is exactly right and true. i agree. LASA go home...
