On the subject of security . . .

In a recent newspaper article HERE, Dave Lewis, general manager of the Columbia Water Company, is quoted as saying "they" are going to review the security at the Water Company site where the water storage tanks are located.  A good place to start might be the boundary between Laurel Hill Cemetery and the Water Company's property.  Currently, there is no fence or any other barrier between the properties to keep unauthorized people out.

Something still doesn't add up. Why would someone sneak onto the property - most likely carrying bolt cutters - cut the locks and climb to the top of one of the water towers just to do . . . nothing?

Why indeed and more importantly are they looking for the person responsible for the borough needing water trucks hauled in and the increased cost for residents needing to purchase drinking water? Since the water tested negative, I wonder how much time will be spent on finding the perpetrator or will it simply disappear as many other incidents seem to?

The people that own the the water company do not want to spend a dime of their own money! Whether to be for a fence or anything else! These people are wealthy and powerful. I can not say enough of about these slim balls!!

i think so too. i can't imagine that some agencies wouldn't get involved...this is very serious...it seems like they have NO security to protect our water source..

Completely agree with your assessment. Why would someone sneak onto the property - most likely carrying bolt cutters - cut the locks and climb to the top of one of the water towers just to do nothing? Also, why was it not OK to consume yet OK to bathe with - easiest way to get poisoned is through absorption through the skin. This is an infrastructure issue and "hopefully" was reported to Homeland Security as required.

I'm sorry but while I agree it needs much better security, I think the ensuing panic is just another sign of post 9/11 American hysteria. As a much younger man, myself and a group of friends would frequent that complex, through laurel hill as you mentioned, and I'm ashaned to say at one point, we broke the same lock. Never was a word breathed to the public.Simple teenage curiosity. And the bolt cutters used came from about ten feet away. I myself immediately recalled that time and consumed the water freely. I refuse to let the terrorists win.

East Donegal man charged in Columbia hit & run

NATHAN WILLISON | LNP Staff Writer An East Donegal Township man is facing criminal charges after police say he struck a 13-year-old with his truck and fled the scene last month.  Derek Scott Mohr, 28, is charged with causing an accident involving death or injury without a license, failing to stop to render aid, driving at an unsafe speed and related charges.  Mohr had been driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado through Chestnut Street in Columbia around 8 p.m. March 20 when he struck a 13-year-old boy riding a motorized scooter and continued driving, according to charging documents filed by police.  When police arrived, they found the boy with a broken leg and a cut to his forehead. If Mayor Lutz is going to accept praise for Columbia's successes, many of which, frankly, he had little direct involvement in, then he must also be held accountable for our failures.
