Not sure what you mean by why? Last year when the mayflies hatched there were several accidents, due to slippery conditions and reduced visibility. The swarms made it difficult to see. They are attracted to the lights.

install new lights and put them on higher poles to keep these pest above the bridge not on the bridge.

The lights are beautiful, to bad the old ones were ever removed.
Turn your lights on, slow down, stay off your cell phone and enjoy the mayfly festival. It only happens once a year.

These are new lights..I don't think they are going to be replaced anytime soon.
