Emergency crews responded to Plane and Manor Streets yesterday for a report of a person lying on the sidewalk. Personnel found a man lying there who appeared to be disoriented and possibly intoxicated. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
A passerby found what appeared to be a bag containing hypodermic needles yesterday afternoon in the Shawnee Run on Mill Street. This find might be one more bit of evidence of the reported heroin epidemic in Lancaster County. To help combat the problem, a community conversation on heroin abuse is scheduled for Tuesday, June 7, at 7 p.m. at the Columbia Jr/Sr High School.
A female motorist was injured when her minivan struck a utility pole and caught fire shortly after 7:30 Friday morning. The accident occurred on Route 441, between the Plane Street tunnel and the culvert near Blue Lane. The driver was reportedly taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

It is bad enough to use drugs, but to dump needles where children can find them says something about the individual(s) using them does not respect people.I pray they seek help and get their lives straightened out.
I am constantly amazed how people can manage to hit those poles, spaced 100 feet apart, with all that empty space in between.
Not for nothing, but most of these people don't have respect for themselves let alone other people. When you are in that state of mind you don't care who comes across things. If you want to get rid of it you do it anywhere. This will NEVER stop or end. A person has to want to get better to do it and some people just don't want that. Here's what I think should happen. I think there should be designated drop off area's. Not saying it's ok to do, but since it's going to be done anyways give them a place to disposal of it correctly. I know there are places that sell needles to anyone who wants them no questions asked, so why not give them a place to put them? Doing this will protect our community and children. There has been multiple times where needles have been found at the school playgrounds, parks or just on sidewalks, so instead of having meetings trying to end it (which will never happen) why not have a meeting on what we can do to protect our community.
I think users are going to be to afraid to goto a spot that says HEY!! Anyone watching me. Just dropping off my bad needles. Like you said in that state of mind. If their rig is bad. They gonna pitch it quick and grab the new one. They arnt walking 4_5_6_7 blocks to the disposal spot. More have the gas to do so!
You've already said these people don't respect themselves or anyone else. Why would they use a Dropbox?
Needles were found in Bank Ave and at Bank Ave at Locust St. approximately one year ago, it hasn't ended and won't until the public stands up against the needle users!!
