Columbia's Community Safety Officer Joel Hopta resigns

At the April 11, 2023 Columbia Borough Council meeting, Council accepted the resignation of Community Safety Officer Joel Hopta. Hopta is a retired Police Officer with 28 years of experience and was a Junior High School football coach. Hopta mentored students and mediated issues in addition to providing security at the Hill Campus. He was hired for the position in January of this year. No reason was given for his resignation.
