Barbara Fisher (center) and Charity Kadwill were sworn in to the Columbia Borough Planning Commission by Mayor Leo Lutz at Monday's Borough Council meeting.

They can plan all they want. As long as taxes in this town are so much higher than the surrounding areas developers won't look at investing in this town. They also see there's no effort in changing that. Just wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars. Why aren't the leaders of this town including outsiders with the financial wherewithal & who have proven track records of moving towns in the right direction. Instead they use this useless EDC & connected people from within the town who are just looking at gaining personal wealth. That's why Lancaster City is moving in right direction they're involving developers who have deep pockets & the business sense to make the changes necessary to have a vibrant town.

Seeing that the borough just paid the Bigler's $51,000 for the Locust St. property, maybe the new members of the planning commission and council can give insight to what to do with it if it does not sell.I guess they still owe for Flagger Force and other liens if applicable.

What message is this sending to landlords. How many blighted properties can the borough handle? Why does Sam Bigler get to wash his hands with no penalty? He made $300k on the Walnut Street demolition. Columbia Borough should have put a lein on that property.How much to demolish or renovate the Locust Street property? Unreal politics!

Perfect Settings has shown their passion for the Historic District. After years of enduring Sam Bigler and Columbia Boro's negligence it's the only right decision made in years.

What does Bigler's have on the borough?Only took 2 years, which he fooled around and won. What is the next property he wants the borough to buy,the old garment factory apartments at 3rd and Union? If I remember correctly, the parking lot up the street on Union was never finished as to approval for his apartments.

So the use of our tax money will be used for real estate in the respect of a private business? Give me a break! The Columbia Borough Codes Department was warned many times on the deterioration of this Bigler property. So donating this property is a "I am sorry we were not proactive on this landlord". Give me a break!

As for the Historic District comment. Why is there storage units being built on Front Street? Not so historic to me.

Columbia elected officials and codes allowed Bigler to get away with neglect. THEY NEED TO BE SORRY AND ASHAMED!
Pagans put up with it for years, they deserve the BREAKS. Im sure if they receive the dilapidated property something good will come of it.
As far as Front Street storage units, is that area in Cle's Historic Distrct? I'm not in favor of the units or even how that project was approved.
Give Perfect Settings a break, it will probably be cheaper on the taxpayers in the long run..

East Donegal man charged in Columbia hit & run

NATHAN WILLISON | LNP Staff Writer An East Donegal Township man is facing criminal charges after police say he struck a 13-year-old with his truck and fled the scene last month.  Derek Scott Mohr, 28, is charged with causing an accident involving death or injury without a license, failing to stop to render aid, driving at an unsafe speed and related charges.  Mohr had been driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado through Chestnut Street in Columbia around 8 p.m. March 20 when he struck a 13-year-old boy riding a motorized scooter and continued driving, according to charging documents filed by police.  When police arrived, they found the boy with a broken leg and a cut to his forehead. His scooter was lying nearby, its handlebars completely snapped off.  Another teenager who witnessed what happened described the truck to police and said that the driver made no attempt to stop after striking the boy.   GUEST COMMENTARY [Name withheld by request out of fear of retaliation] For two decades, Leo Lutz has occupied the mayor's office in Columbia, and his supporters are quick to credit him with every positive development in our borough, but leadership is a two-way street. If Mayor Lutz is going to accept praise for Columbia's successes, many of which, frankly, he had little direct involvement in, then he must also be held accountable for our failures. The facts paint a troubling picture. Despite the mayor's repeated assurances that our streets are safe, we've witnessed a disturbing rise in assaults, shootings, and vandalism.
