How do you dispose of grass clippings? Landfill does not want them, and now the borough don't.What do you do with them, my flower beds can not handle all of them as a mulch.
Exactly, please tell us what in the world we are to do with all the grass clippings. We were once told they should never be swept into the gutters because they do not want them in the storm drain, so do we just let them pile up in our yards and get wet and moldy all summer? Help us understand where you want them, do they belong in our weekly trash?
we are supposed to mow our grass along the outside perimeter that it shoots the cuttings back into the yard and on the grass! people are lax on this. they blow all the grass clippings onto the streets and it ends up in the storm drains and into the river and the Chesapeake Bay. CUT IT ONTO YOUR LAWN!!!!!! IT FERTILIZES AND INSULATES IT MUCH LIKE MULCH. Gas produces NOXIOUS gases.
It is nice that the borough sends out emails,but how about the people that do not have computers. They are still going to get grass clippings in the recycle bags.This should have been in the newsletter that was mailed to everyone. Maybe Kelly could have put this info in his "state of the Union" address that was so lengthy.
if you cut the grass often you dont get a lot of clippings and they will feed your yard i always leave my clipping on the lawn but you have to cut it before it gets to high
Why in the hell do I now have to spend money on a mulching mower? I'm already paying hundreds of dollars a month to the borough for basic services.

Blowing or mowing the grass away from sidewalks and streets is common sense, but it does look and smell bad after while. Someone has been walking a mower on our sidewalk (apparently borrowing it) leaving grass clippings all over. Where do you suggest I put them? Extra work for me cause it makes my walk look like sh#!

The mayor was happy to report that with each passing year the "Spring Clean Up" sees less junk to haul away and it takes less time. Perhaps the reason is that there are so many restrictions now on what qualifies to be hauled away during the "Spring Clean Up." And now the restriction on grass clippings! If you truly want to clean up the borough, just take it and cut the bull.
You can buy a mulching blade. Like other posters stated, it is a natural fertilizer for your lawn. Once you get this blade, you can actually mow your leaves as well in the fall. This also fertilizes the lawn (instead of using harsh chemicals that hurt the environment). Having a mulching blade allows you to free up your time instead of wasting time bagging up grass clippings. That money you spend on buying those bags several times a week could add up to either buying a 3 in 1 mower, or a mulching blade. Work smarter, not harder.
There was a "yard waste" mention in the borough's spring newsletter - and there was an article about the benefits of letting grass cuttings on the lawn - unfortunately the "yard waste" mention was light in details about what will and won't be accepted.
Now you mean someone else thinks the mayor needs to go???? Well, see if anyone has the guts to try and beat him in the election(s)!! If someone tries, everyone that wants him out of that position, and maybe out of the town, should get out and vote. I don't believe anyone has the guts to try, or else he may have his 'friends' or friend, if he has one, take care of the brave soul.
As always, the people in charge of taxpayer money cannot relate to "poor." Most of the residents they represent are indeed poor or at least struggling.
The comment under yard waste post where someone says "buy a mulching mower." Obviously this person never had to live paycheck to paycheck or else they have forgotten. A mulching mower is not in the budget for most Columbia residents.
The borough farm receives yard waste from other municipalities, I wonder if they are banned from grass clippings as well.
We cut our grass every 4 days. We still have grass clippings. And big clumps turn into mold. Mold gets into your lungs & can cause fungal meningitis along with other illnesses.

I trim out front of my home and i pick it up and put in the brown yard waste bag! Now i am told they wont pick it up! BULL SHITTTT!!
