Put more MONEY in the Market House...ARE they NUTSSS!!!! How about the three things to do first, lower the property taxes, scale back on wages in the borough, reduce the police force!!
Wow, how much were they paid to figure out that antiques are lifting Columbia ? , and who's great idea was it to suggest that we need 50% more antique shops ? How about suggesting 50% less taxes so that working class people can afford to live here ! How about suggesting that properties like the Columbia Hotel Properties held by non profits are immediately put back on the tax rolls !
They should sell the market house. There's only a few stands in it anyway. Cutting back on the police force will not work. Just compare some numbers that are out there. They are some of the busiest police officers in the county (at least in the top three). If you don't believe me go on the county 911 page and look at the number of calls and compare that with the number of officers. Once the fire department consolidation takes place Columbia will have one of the busiest all volunteer fire departments in the county too. I think Manheim Township now has at least one paid firefighter on duty all of the time now. I think in the future we will see a fire tax to support them.
Take notice of what some people want in this town, high scale homes, antiques, more property to rent low income, but owners are rich! Its all for them and not for the town!! No good paying jobs, high taxes, ext..ext....
and don't you think the reason cola police have sooooo many calls are the kinds of people who live here....transients who take the bus in Lancaster come to columbia and never leave. they know how to play the game. the boro must STOP allowing more and more properties to become rentals and get rid of ALL the scum lords. NOW. we do NOT want or need or more rental properties that ALL these tenants with many children burden our schools and pay NO taxes. UNLESS you create a renters tax for every tenant 18 yrs to 62 yrs.
the boro (mgmt) needs to become business friendly!!! they do absolutely NOTHING to attract or even keep small business here. all these rental properties that are downtown with NO off street parking would hog the meters. however, each business could purchase a "small business parking permit" for 1 or 2 meters, depending on how busy their business is, for their customers to park free and shop!!!!! the boro could charge each business a set fee for the permit-say $20 a month...to attract and keep people shopping at these small businesses. there would be a way to make it work. seems no one is interested. someone needs to step up and get something started!!!!! think positive! after all without the small businesses and the HOMEOWNING taxpayers this town will die.
well it's a sad day.....WE the taxpaying homeowners are the ONES who should be directing EACH councilperson on WHAT WE WANT. period. it's time talk to your councilpersons...they are public servants and their phone numbers are public info. call today. make them do more than they do now.....
that one comment sounded like it could work....IF the Boro would work with the small businesses in the Boro. hell, they do EVERYTHING for Market and it SHOULD be shut down. the Trust has GOT to go!
Till we get rid of our school dist & its high taxes, nothing will work. Just like in business if you have a failing division with no hope of sucess, you have to get rid of it to make the whole co sucessful. Our leaderless will continue to spin their wheels until they do this.

It's a bit debatable as to weather or not things are working. Collectively, there are at least 200 Antique Vendors within the various malls that would say things are working quite well !, and quite a few artists as well as a few shops up and down Fourth and Locust, so it's not exactly as if all things are bad and getting worse, however, the low income housing and high tax situation sure has seen no sign of improvement, so granted, generally speaking, the overall situation still sucks, and it's been the business community and not the politicians that have largely been responsible for the economic progress, and perhaps only a had full of individuals at that.
