A local resident points to the regulations for Locust Street Park to remind police to patrol and enforce. Warmer weather is on tap for this coming week, which will encourage people to congregate in the park, and last year saw a lot of vandalism there. At its November 10, 2014 meeting, Columbia Borough Council voted unanimously to give police enforcement powers in the park.

Let's make sure the kids do not start hanging out in the park just because it is getting warm out,
This sign must be also in Spanish, why is this NOT!!
Guess why they are pointing....
Who wrote the langue for this sign? This is sorry waste of money and and simply shows the author has no idea of the laws that govern our Commonwealth.
First, "No loud talking or immoral conduct." What does this mean? My mother law is elderly and has a hearing problem and talks loud all the time. Will she be subject to prosecution under these rules. Also, what is the definition of immoral conduct. What is deemed immoral by one person may be completely acceptable by another. For example, one man kissing another man may be immoral in the mind of one person yet immoral in the mind of another.
Second, No Firearms. Seriously? Is the author must be completely ignorant of state law, especially in light on recent changes to the law and challenges being made. If I want to open carry through the park, I certainly can under the state law, which, by the way, makes very clear local municipality cannot make laws that supersede the state law.
What a complete embarrassment to the community at large.
Anyone going to school or work here has to know some English. Who has to pay for another sign to be printed in Spanish?
What a huge sense of entitlement. If I move to Canada or France, I would not expect all signs to be in both English and French. I would expect that I might need to learn the primary language spoken there.
Where does this stop? Will they be printed in Chinese too? What about German or Russian. Get real.
One word: assimilate. Not learning the language is not helping, it only creates a barrier.
A glaring omission: NO SMOKING.
The sign might also say "NO LAUGHING - NO FUN."
In which century is the Old Columbia Public Grounds Company operating?
No Loitering, except for Thru Pedestrians.
Isn't that an oxymoron?
ECT?... Reminds me of jokes about a certain president on the definition of "is"
Depends on what your abbreviation of et cetera is.
imagine that! the powers that be have NOT A CLUE. ridiculous. unacceptable. get rid of them all and pump new blood into this Boro.
Who is on the Public Ground Company??
have to comment on columbia news and views....first, how is the police dept going to provide a safe haven for craigslist transactions when it is NOT manned every day nor all day and night??? second, maybe its time to reorganize cola police...start at the top 2..and clean house. police SHOULD be visible downtown all the time. third, maybe hire local architects that know what cola wants instead of hiring another set of architects who have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA.....HINT LOOK AT THE MONSTROSITY RIVER TRAIL BLDG......WHO DO YOU THINK HAS TO PAY TO UPKEEP, CLEAN, SUPPLY HEAT, ELECTRIC, WATER, SEWER, ETC......seriously? NO ONE has any common sense. at all, period.

The sign in 2013!
looks like the incoming warmer weather is bringing out more than just the unwanted disruptive juveniles.......... the signs are posted at each entrance of the park to keep out the likes we had last year. And to use your Common Sense that the regulations listed as simple as they might read! These signs have been there for many years.
Thanks Brian. Your pic reminds me of some that I took of the park signs (4 total) for a previous post:

Those are good points.
thanks. those good points should be brought up to boro mgmt. no one does have any common sense. it's unbelieveable.
Some of the rules of the park are crazy. No Loitering dusk til dawn but you can walk through the park all hours of the night? Its a park and young kids cant throw a football or fresbie or have too much fun? If the police arrested my kids for throwing a football in the park that would be ridiculous
Some civic-minded Columbians, the names of whom I won't list here.
oh why???? are your kids special???? do you think they should be treated different than my kids???
there is a playground up 1 block on the 600 block of Cherry street for football and other sport related things.
