On Sunday evening (July 8, 2012) at River Park, a Waterways Conservation officer drove his truck out through the "in" lane, disregarding two clearly marked DO NOT ENTER signs, as well as several painted arrows on the asphalt. I wonder if it's ok for other citizens to do so.

Heat Wave to End
Forecasters are predicting an end to the recent heat wave, starting tomorrow. Daytime temperatures are supposed to be in the 80s all this week. (Break out the sweaters!)
In the meantime, here are pics of how some dealt with the oppressive heat:

What I Saw - Saturday, July 7, 2012
I started out early to beat the heat, but it was already there. Here are some things I saw during an hour-long walk . . .
Clinking, clanking, clattering collection of caliginous cans.
Might be worth a few bucks at Sahd's, anyway.
Postings in window on 100 block of Walnut
A close-up of one of the above
Still too much of this around town
Trash along I Avenue (as opposed to Avenue I) near Second Street
Feral cats living among the above-pictured trash
Figure drawing (painting) at Garth Gallery
(Reminds me of Bob Nelson's drawing class at MU.)
I wonder how long it will be until local bluenoses complain.
Newly planted trees along Locust Street
And an old one about to bite the dust along Barber

What I Saw - Friday, July 6, 2012
Praying mantis (on my porch)
A good omen, if you believe in such things.
New sheriffs - I mean, constables - in town

"Cinderella" and "Puss in Boots" Coming to Columbia
The following comment pertains to Saturday's post on the art & craft show HERE, but I've given it its own posting so it doesn't get lost on the blog:
Quite a few of these pictures are of the cast and crew of Cinderella and Puss in Boots, the two shows being put on by sponsors of the CHS theater group in benefit of the group. The shows are July 27 at 6:30 p.m., July 28 at 1:00 and 6:30 p.m., and July 29 at 4 p.m. All shows are being held on Poplar Street between 6th and 7th Streets. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on. (In case of extreme heat or inclement weather, performances will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Columbia United Methodist church. For more info, contact director Ja'net Wood at (717)-406-8494.
