Columbia Police make several recent drug busts

Columbia Borough Police Chief Jack Brommer presented a report to council last week detailing several recent drug-related investigations in and around Columbia. The Columbia Borough Police Department worked closely with the Lancaster County Drug Task Force on these investigations:

  • A search warrant was issued and a search conducted on the 500 block of Avenue N (near Makle Park). As a result, two subjects were arrested and later sent to Lancaster County Prison for possession with intent to deliver of over 200 grams of methamphetamine (street value: $23,000) and 160 bags of heroin. A loaded, stolen 9mm pistol was also recovered. 
  • As a result, a second investigation was undertaken outside the borough, and a second search warrant was served. 75 grams of bulk heroin was recovered (street value: $22,500), representing approximately 2,250 bags of heroin. A 12-gauge shotgun was also recovered. 
  • A raid was also conducted in late September on the 900 block of Manor Street, in which one subject arrested, and heroin and other drugs were recovered, along with a gun.

Please continue to focus onthe drugs! Two K-9's would be an amazing addition. It would be safer to have at a bare minimum 3 officers on 24/7.

Anyone who doesn't want a dog on the police force has SOMTHING TO HIDE. Columbia is as bad as Lancaster or York for drugs people, a dog is a deterent , it finds drugs , saves officers lives, try to out run a german shepherd and see how far you get!

I totally agree with needing a new mayor. Dogs would b great too but Columbia police do a great job with out them

We need one or two cops walking with a K-9. Don't tell me there's only two cops on duty, because I ALWAYS see at least three, ALWAYS.

East Donegal man charged in Columbia hit & run

NATHAN WILLISON | LNP Staff Writer An East Donegal Township man is facing criminal charges after police say he struck a 13-year-old with his truck and fled the scene last month.  Derek Scott Mohr, 28, is charged with causing an accident involving death or injury without a license, failing to stop to render aid, driving at an unsafe speed and related charges.  Mohr had been driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado through Chestnut Street in Columbia around 8 p.m. March 20 when he struck a 13-year-old boy riding a motorized scooter and continued driving, according to charging documents filed by police.  When police arrived, they found the boy with a broken leg and a cut to his forehead.   GUEST COMMENTARY [Name withheld by request out of fear of retaliation] For two decades, Leo Lutz has occupied the mayor's office in Columbia, and his supporters are quick to credit him with every positive development in our borough, but leadership is a two-way street. If Mayor Lutz is going to accept praise for Columbia's successes, many of which, frankly, he had little direct involvement in, then he must also be held accountable for our failures.
