This property is condemned - York-based landlords given notice

The borough codes department recently condemned 134 North Third Street due to an "unlawful structure." The letter accompanying the posted notice defines an unlawful structure as "A structure which is found to be occupied by more persons than is permitted under this code or which was erected, altered or occupied contrary to law." 

According to the letter, the rental does not have a certificate of occupancy or rental license.

The owners have 30 days to correct the violations. The full text of the letter is shown in the photograph below. 

The building contains several rentals units. Sources tell Columbia Spy that occupants have regularly been noisy and disruptive.

Hopefully, this is the start of cleaning up the out of town slumlords. I am sure there are a lot more that could be condemned or warned of possible condemnation.

It's a town wide problem, code department knows it well.

Its a start. Lets keep it rolling and get place up to code. Safety for the tenant and owners pay the proper fees!

The Boro Powers-To-Be should get together and start walking the streets of the Boro and look at the Meters on the walls and figure out why the Boro and the School District is losing money. When you have 5 or 6 Families living in one house it is TAX Base they are losing and the SLUM LORDS are making THOUSANDS hand over fists, do your JOBS and get out of the office and see where the PROBLEMS are in this town, like they say this town is going to HELL in a HAND BASKET. East Donegal man charged in Columbia hit & run

NATHAN WILLISON | LNP Staff Writer An East Donegal Township man is facing criminal charges after police say he struck a 13-year-old with his truck and fled the scene last month.  Derek Scott Mohr, 28, is charged with causing an accident involving death or injury without a license, failing to stop to render aid, driving at an unsafe speed and related charges.  Mohr had been driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado through Chestnut Street in Columbia around 8 p.m. March 20 when he struck a 13-year-old boy riding a motorized scooter and continued driving, according to charging documents filed by police.  When police arrived, they found the boy with a broken leg and a cut to his forehead.   GUEST COMMENTARY [Name withheld by request out of fear of retaliation] For two decades, Leo Lutz has occupied the mayor's office in Columbia, and his supporters are quick to credit him with every positive development in our borough, but leadership is a two-way street. If Mayor Lutz is going to accept praise for Columbia's successes, many of which, frankly, he had little direct involvement in, then he must also be held accountable for our failures.
