VOTE THE COMMISSIONERS OUT!!!!!!! They are undermining transparency. How many crooks are carrying their scanners along while committing crimes? It takes time and patience to sit and listen to the police channels.
You don't need to "carry a scanner" to listen to police channels. There are smart-phone based applications that allow for users to stream non-encrypted police communications directly through their phones. This has nothing to do with transparency. Nothing is being hidden. It has to do with real-time safety and information security. Radio communications will still be saved and logged, and will be available for review through FOIA or discovery in legal proceedings. Take a deep breath and settle down.
