The sidewalk is sinking. Two transformers were installed under the sidewalks on both sides of the 100 block of Locust Street on November 23. Columbia Spy reported on the installation HERE. Shortly afterward, however, these areas began to sink, particularly on the north side, shown below. Currently, the sidewalk is not passable via wheelchair, pipes are exposed, and the area presents a tripping hazard . . .

The photos of the trash along Avenue G are very kind, it actually looks a great deal worse in person. Does the street sweeper ever clean the alleys? Even once a season? Some areas of town are just a dirty mess.
The street sweeper never goes down the alleys and all that trash is from Turkey Hill people that don't know how to throw away their trash I know this because I have used this as a way for over 30 years
It looked the same last summer, full of trash. So is the answer to just leave it pile up until a strong wind blows it around town? If it becomes impassable the borough will be required to plow it.
In summers past I would clean up the worst of the section shown as the property referenced is adjacent to mine (owned by a "Good Ol' Columbia Boy,' mind you). Due to illness and major surgery this past August I neglected it, along with the gutter trash on both sides of my block. Maybe next summer. And maybe not.
On a positive note,, thankso go to The Church at Second and Cherry, a real asset to the Historic District.
Thanks to whoever fixed the damaged horse! Love the Doolittles for their passion to support Columbia even with the negatives.
Columbia should be embarrassed by the neglect shown to areas of the town!
Council is blind and narrow minded with the spending and preservation of what remains parts of History, look at the carriage way known as Ave J.

How many more months are we going to wait for this human decency you speak of? If everyone cleans up after themselves then yay for the "taxa" payers, we can get rid of the street sweeper and end one tax burden.
