Speaking of the crew from Truck 801, what is going to happen with the equipment that currently sits idle at the consolidated fire department. Seems to me this is a huge waste of resources. I asked a fire fighter from one of the active companies in town and he had no idea. I asked him if his company would have the personnel to staff the equipment and he told me that most of the time the two active companies could staff the equipment. With that information, It would seem logical for the consolidated company to give up the equipment so it could be used to protect the citizens of the town.

East Donegal man charged in Columbia hit & run

NATHAN WILLISON | LNP Staff Writer An East Donegal Township man is facing criminal charges after police say he struck a 13-year-old with his truck and fled the scene last month.  Derek Scott Mohr, 28, is charged with causing an accident involving death or injury without a license, failing to stop to render aid, driving at an unsafe speed and related charges.  Mohr had been driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado through Chestnut Street in Columbia around 8 p.m. March 20 when he struck a 13-year-old boy riding a motorized scooter and continued driving, according to charging documents filed by police.  When police arrived, they found the boy with a broken leg and a cut to his forehead. His scooter was lying nearby, its handlebars completely snapped off.  Another teenager who witnessed what happened described the truck to police and said that the driver made no attempt to stop after striking the boy. Columbia Borough Manager Jack Brommer Announces Resignation

Jack Brommer [Columbia Spy file photo] Jack Brommer, who has spent nearly three decades serving Columbia Borough in various roles, has submitted his resignation as borough manager, effective November 13, 2026, according to a letter posted on The Columbia Chronicle . So far, the reason for his resignation has not been made public. Council will likely vote on the issue at its next meeting on September 22, 2026. Resignation letter In September 2025, as part of a planned succession, Brommer took on the role of interim borough manager while continuing to serve as police chief — a dual role he maintained through April 2026. During that transitional period, he earned a $118,000 police chief salary plus a $2,000 monthly stipend for his added manager duties, with guidance from part-time assistant borough manager Ron Youtz helping smooth the handoff.
