Just read this article. What a joke. The same issues with the same properties for years and years.....how long is this mgmt going to sit back and not do anything? Its the same properties who have trash and rubbish, who have serious maintenance problems and who continue to rent to tenants who don't care...they trash the properties give Colubmia a worse name, send thier kids to our schools and pay nothing to do so, they don't pay any taxes, which they should if they want to live here and send their children to our schools and use our police for protection.... some people really need to wake up. this is the end of this Boro. Have you looked at the number of homes for sale? Have you looked at trhe number of homes being foreclosed on? Have you seen how many homes are up for tax sale and sheriff sales???? WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND???? And the school board is another big joke. Combine the schools with another district. Enlist state reps to help make it happen since no other schools want to. too bad. we are losing our battle here and NO ONE cares. Oh and the stray cat population is HUGE.....the Boro needs to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT and start FINE-ING people for feeding them and putting out boxes, etc for tthem to sleep in.....
totally agree with you! would love to see the borough actually start to address the stray cat issue. have called and complained on many occasions about our wonderful neighbors who do all of what you say - feeding, putting out boxes, blankets, etc. what a treat it is speaking with George the "code enforcement officer." he told our neighbor it was us complaining....can you imagine how nicely that went over when you live in an attached house? neighbor told George yup I do all those things but i pay for the spay/neuter so he told her it was alright!!! WTF!!! just because a cat is spayed/neutered does not mean that they don't defecate everywhere, spread fleas and worms, or cause other damages. a feral cat recently got into our yard and fought with our dog, the dog killed it, and got many scratches to its head and face. our dogs are also never around other dogs - at all - and they got fleas. hmm wonder how that happened? couldn't be the feral cat colony that congregates on our street?
another neighbor puts out 10+ paper plates of cat food a day and when she gets home from work - i am in no way exaggerating here - gets out a bottle of bubbles and blows bubbles for all her kitties. it is the sickest thing i have ever seen in my life.
all of the issues that you have listed make me wish i never bought a house here. i am the target demographic that towns like columbia should be targeting if they want to improve or have any kind of "renaissance" - well educated, middle income, young, starting a family. instead, we are treated to psycho neighbors and borough employees who are unable to do their jobs!
agree...you need to go to Boro Council mtgs and complain...go to council persons (their phone numbers are available-call them, every one) call and talk to the Borough Manager. Ask why Codes is not doing anything too....Its downright wrong that us middle class WORKING taxpaying homeowners are once again the ones that pay.....something is VERY wrong with this picture. and until residents start attending mtgs and calling all their council persons NOTHING will EVER change.
A truly feral cat has to be " left out" it is a wild animal. The spay/neuter program is essential to controlling the population. The cats are also are given a rabies shot when the spay/neuter is done. All of which helps stop disease. At least some people are trying to do something about the problem of stray cats.
its not enough. Boro COuncil mtgs are the 2nd Monday of every month at 7 pm at Boro Hall and ALSO Boro Counci lmtg of the whole is the 4th Monday of every month at 6 pm at Boro Hall. To post Oct 30 at 8:51 pm - You need to call and complain to the codes dept...EVERY DAY...AND if you have and nothing is being done CALL council persons, and the Boro Manager and the Mayor.......
spay/neuter might help control the population but it would be a lot more effective if the "cat lovers" did not encourage life and breeding by providing shelter and food!!! if these cats' lives were not sustained by offering the food and shelter they would die off quicker, thereby reducing the population. and that's great they get their rabies shot - but what about the other diseases like fleas and worms that strays carry?
and if it's a wild animal - it should not be fed. didn't you ever see the "don't feed the bears" sign? the borough code defines ownership of a pet as providing food and shelter. if people are doing this, then they are truly the ones responsible for that animal. the line between "pet" and "feral/wild" is blurred when these cats have constant daily interaction and are reliant on humans for basic needs.
i appreciate that they are helping to do something about the problem - but really they are part of it too. the primary offenders are the low lifes that let the cats out in the first place, but second prize goes to the idiots who feed them and provide shelter. that this county has adopted TNR instead of euthanization is beyond me. it is much more humane to euthanize than allow these cats to wander the streets and get hit by cars.
Amen. I couldn't agreemore.....people that feed & provide shelter SHOULD be fined. Perios. Daily. And excuse me, but what planet does Boro mgmt and council and school board come from??? Poverty-YES. This town will be nothing BUT section 8 and rentals. because the middle class hardworking (note:working!) can NOT afford to carry ALL these transients anymore. This Boro will cease to exist! HELLO _ IS ANYONE LISTENING? Yes these stray & feral cats SHOULD be euthanized. Immediately.
seriously? this Boro has at least hundreds of stray and feral cats....they must do something about it. they carry diseases and they smell horrible and they keep having litter after litter...and the population grows and grows. STOP IT.....END THIS CYCLE.

when are the borough meetings?
doesn't help when some of the offenders of those cats left out are council members
