Police arrest five after shots fired incident Friday afternoon

From witness reports and on-scene reporting:

Reportedly, an argument among several males led to shots being fired near 4th and Union Streets. (Witnesses reported hearing five or six shots.) Four males then ran into an apartment that police identified as 221 South 4th Street. Police from several departments, sheriffs, and a K9 unit responded to the scene, surrounded the building, and ordered the suspects to surrender. At about the same time, a female was taken into custody across the street. After about 30 minutes, the males left the building one-by-one over the course of 15 or 20 minutes, until all four were taken into custody.

Afterwards, police removed an infant from the building. The infant appeared to be unharmed.

Columbia Borough schools were reported to be on lockdown during the incident.

More details will be posted as they become available.

[LNP | LancasterOnline] Fundraising passes $250,000 in 41st District race between Brett Miller and Brad Chambers

Brett Miller (left) and Brad Chambers

Lancaster County Republicans have thrown their financial weight behind incumbent state Rep. Brett Miller this year as he faces a near-equally funded challenger in labor administrator Brad Chambers, a Democrat.

Every GOP state lawmaker from the county has given Miller's campaign at least $1,000, according to his latest Department of State campaign finance reports. Those dollars helped push Miller, of East Hempfield, to more than $136,000 raised between May 14 and Nov. 21.

Chambers, of Columbia, has also proven to be an effective fundraiser. In that same period, he raised about $120,000.
