A.T.O. Excavating, Inc. was awarded the contract for demolition of the house for the low bid of $120,750. The high cost of demolition is attributed to the amount of asbestos found in the house. According to the bid, asbestos abatement alone will cost $40,000. At the August 16, 2022 Columbia Borough Planning Commission meeting, borough engineer Derek Rinaldo said, "There is a ton of asbestos in the property - a ton." The demolition will be funded through a grant, according to borough manager Mark Stivers.

Columbia, celebrating 50 years of girls basketball, sails past Pequea Valley to remain undefeated

Columbia had plenty of reasons to celebrate its victory over Pequea Valley on Friday night.

The host Crimson Tide remained undefeated, zooming past the Braves 57-27 to win their Section Four girls basketball opener. Columbia improved to 3-0, continuing its early season surge. The Tide feasted on 24 turnovers — 17 in the first half — as Columbia's defense turned it up a notch, leading to a quick-strike, fast-breaking offensive performance. The Tide also handed PV its first setback this season.
