Following is an excerpt of an editorial appearing in today's Lancaster Newspaper, regarding the fight for transparency in local government:
"The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors, the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs and the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania think otherwise.
They want less transparency. They want to make it more difficult for the residents of Pennsylvania to see what government is doing.
It is with that attitude that they are opposing House Bill 2408 introduced by state Rep. Jim Christiana, R-Beaver County.
His bill would require government agencies to make meeting agendas — including a list of issues subject to official action and/or deliberation — available in public prior to public meetings or hearings. Further, agencies would have to post agendas at the meeting location and on their public websites."
Currently, Columbia Borough Council makes agendas available immediately before the start of its meetings.

Theres a building at s 13 st, the Boro made a mistake, its not supposed to be on someone's backyard. There's a stopwork order on it till the zoning meets. They wiil get a variance for the mistake they made.

wow...have you seen "whats happening inColumbia" on face book...lots of neighbors are irate because of the monstrosity being built on s 13th st....zoning officer made a HUGE mistake....the neighbors NEED to go to the council mtg mon sept 22 at 6 or 6:30 and INSIST no DEMAND that it be rectified....taken down.

i agree too. this isn't the first mistake (huge one) thats been made. the boro council meeting of the whole is monday sept 22 at 6:00 pm. ATTEND. this is the informal meeting where you REALLY can talk and discuss matters. neighbors go to the mtg. let council and boro mgmt know exactly how yous feel and where you stand BEFORE the Zoning Hearing Board mtg !
excellent advice! please attend the mtg 9/22 @ 6 pm.....let council know in NO uncertain terms that the atrocity MUST be rectified.removed.downsized.
