Heat Wave to End

Forecasters are predicting an end to the recent heat wave, starting tomorrow.  Daytime temperatures are supposed to be in the 80s all this week.  (Break out the sweaters!)
In the meantime, here are pics of how some dealt with the oppressive heat:

  1. this is so ridiculous....i see all these people are STILL swimming in the boat ramp area.....really???? where are the police? Norm, i thought this wasn't gonna happen....this needs to be corrected NOW (yesterday really)...it will ONLY get worse. and someone WILL get hurt or killed..it's a BOAT RAMP NOT A SWIMMING POOL

    1. Just the other day, a couple of kids swimming at the boat ramp almost got creamed by a boater in a hurry when he backed his boat down the ramp. I wasn't quick enough on the draw with my camera to capture any of it.

  2. of course nothing is ever as you are told it is....especially when it comes to the River Park and Norm and council....this is EXACTLY the kind of thing they were told 6 years ago would happen and they assured all it would not. they have NO clue when it comes to the almighty Susquehanna and the IGNORANT people in this town. Put an end to it.

  5. Once they are in the water they are in West Hempfield Township. Also I see the middle mallard has some fishing string in its mouth. Wonder if it is hooked?

  6. Then, I don't know how the swimming at the ramp can be policed, because I don't recall ever seeing West Hempfield police at the River Park.
In regard to the mallard, I was wondering about the string, also.

  7. As far as policing in the water. There is a mutual agreement between West Hempfield, Columbia, and Wrightsville(and further down river Manor Twp)....just like with the bridges. Anyone can enforce there as long as a West Hempfield officer is notified.

    1. Thanks for that information. About 10 or 15 years ago, I was told by one of our public officials that swimming at the park is ok as long as it's not done at the ramp. I don't know if that is still the case, or if it is prohibited everywhere now.

    1. OK thanks. I used to swim out between the old bridge and the piers back in the day without any interference.
