American Engineers Group was at Columbia River Park this past week surveying, checking the bridge, etc. A worker with the group said they are doing preliminary work for the bridge rehabilitation project scheduled to start next year.

This Pennsylvania State Police helicopter flew low over the town for about an hour last Monday. A post (since removed) on the Columbia Borough Police Department Facebook page stated that the helicopter was being used for "remapping." 

This PennLive article states: 

"Earthquake hazards, natural resources and groundwater are among the targets for aerial imaging flights across 21 counties in southern Pennsylvania that will continue through the end of the year.

Areas of northern Maryland, northeastern West Virginia and northern Virginia also will be targeted by low-flying helicopters and airplanes in the project coordinated by the U.S. Geological Survey, the Pennsylvania Geological Survey and other state geologists."

Here's a look at the flight path. According to flightradar24, the aircraft's altitude over the town was 700 feet, and its average speed was 30 knots (35 mph).

The helicopter left Columbia at 11:33 a.m. and headed southwest.

Looks like Floyd's of Leadville is leaving town. A tractor trailer and a flatbed full of equipment were parked at the facility at 185 North Front Street on Wednesday, August 31. Floyd Landis, of cycling fame, is a principal of the Colorado-based company. The Columbia Zoning Hearing Board approved the Columbia location for the CBD oil processing facility in September 2019. Temporary detour signs, such as the one shown above, were recently placed along Route 462, in anticipation of the Malleable Road overpass project scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 6. According to the Columbia Borough Police Department's Facebook page:

"THE MALLEABLE RD. OVERPASS PROJECT SLATED FOR 8/29/22 HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK TO TUESDAY, 9/6/22 FROM 9:00PM TO 6:00AM. THE CLOSURE WILL IMPACT THE WESTBOUND LANE OF RT. 30 FOR 8 NIGHTS. TRAFFIC WILL BE DETOURED TO RT. 462 FROM PROSPECT RD. TO COOL CREEK RD. MALLEABLE ROAD WILL HAVE A SINGLE LANE CLOSURE. TRAFFIC WILL BE PERMITTED TO FLOW IN THE OPEN LANE WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A TRAFFIC CONTROL MANAGEMENT COMPANY."
