In Their Own Words - Part 4

Part 4 of "In Their Own Words" focuses on Sueann, an office manager at the shelter, Gene, a volunteer, and Anita, a resident. All three are affiliated one way or another with Hands Across the Street/Columbia Dream Center. The organization is based at the Columbia Presbyterian Church at 360 Locust Street and the Dream Center shelter at 291 South 4th Street.

Sadly, the shelter must move from its current location, because the Lancaster Mennonite Conference, which owns the building, plans to lease it to another tenant. The shelter will have to move in late March or early April, according to Pastor Dave Powers. Unfortunately, Columbia Borough claims it's unable to help, even though it has received ARPA funds from the state. (ARPA stands for American Rescue Plan Act.)

Hopefully, these interviews, which focus on shelter residents and those who help run the shelter, show, as Pastor Powers said, "Homeless people are people."
