Sidewalk still not cleared

This is the sidewalk along 462, near 6th Street, still not cleared and worse than ever.
A few minutes before I shot this photo, I saw an elderly woman carrying bags of groceries, trying to navigate this ice field.

  1. exactly what i'm talking about...this is totally unacceptable. the codes dept is the biggest laughing stock...they drive past this day after day....AND THEY ARE HIRING ANOTHER CODE OFFICER... i think its time to go to council mtg and tell them HELL NO. First make the code dept you already have - PRODUCTIVE.

  4. Before judgment is passed, does anyone know if the owner of the property was cited? The codes department is not going to go out and clear the sidewalk, they simply enforce the law my issuing a citation.

  5. IF the owner was cited, then why wouldn't the codes dept notify the owner he has 24 hours to clear a 3 ft wide walkway or get another citation. they are not cheap. and this snow has been there for what 2 weeks?

  6. just WHAT may I ask does the Codes Dept actually do??? They should be walking the downtown route EVERY day and they should be citing dog shit & trash constantly. How in the world do you expect people to keep coming into town for all the antique shops when the downtown looks like trash city. you have to watch every step you take for all the dog shit on the sidewalks. it's positively ridiculous. someone needs to educate the illustrious codes.

    1. Good question. What DO they do? This sidewalk has been a problem for several weeks.

  7. the codes department spends half their time sitting in court defending the Borough against landlords that pled not guilty to things they did wrong

  8. the codes dept is way overdue for an overhaul...the code officers should be out walking the downtown area daily...they should be looking for and citing ALL dog waste, trash, yard sale on a front porch...that type of thing. oh and lets not forget a house like 855 Chestnut St that was in dire straits and falling down..the whole front porch and it was on the safe walking route to school.....Houston, we have a problem....a really really big propblem.

    1. They need to get out into the real world more often. It's amazing what you see when you're out and about, especially on foot.

  9. the problem is that people like you don't run for office or organize a campaign for new elected officials in charge - and by the way - what does the Borough Manager do these days ? we never hear much bout him

    1. I'm politically minded, but I'm not a political animal.
And the Borough Manager has dropped off the radar recently.

  11. i agree. where is he and why isn't he doing anything about codes guys................AND the Boro IS still hiring ANOTHER code officer. positively ridiculous. the ones they have now...alll 3 MUST be held accountable. be a code officer. Number 1 follow up on complaints Number 2 cite ALL the dog waste and trash. Number 3 find a way to encourage people to take pride in their homes and surroundings again. get rid of the hundreds or thousands of stray cats in the boro. its a problem. concentrate on downtown. walk it every day.
