Columbia has earned recognition by the Smithsonian Magazine as a top U.S. town for visitors, being named as one of “The 20 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2014.”
The magazine, in its April issue, cites Columbia’s historic areas, attractions like the National Watch & Clock Museum and its access to nearby recreation.
Smithsonian listed Columbia as the 13th-best town to visit.

for all the naysayers that didn't see it coming 10 years ago, 5 years ago, or 1 year ago - it's time to open your eyes and open your wallets and start investing in your own town before the outsiders gobble it all up.

I'm surprised at all the negativity towards Columbia finally getting some recognition as well as a much-needed and much-deserved boost to its self esteem.

Chris Vera and all the volunteers at the Historic Society have been putting their heart & souls into Columbia. The reenactment last year was huge! Theres such an interest in all this. and aloong the river makes it even more beautiful. look at Gettysburg. and there are a lot of good places to eat in Columbia!!! now hoping someone will buy the old Hotel Locust and redo & rent rooms-like a B & B and also the buffet at 15th & Lancaster Ave-wouldn't it awesome if a really good well known restaurant would invest here??? they would do an amazing amount of business!!!! Kudos to all !!!!
it would be nice if they put their hearts and souls in to restoring the tower on their own building ! it seems like and oxymoron - the historic society is housed in a run down looking building - why hasn't the Borough helped out more with this one ? - no problem putting a million in the market house and how many people a year does that draw ? go figure
Unfortunately, the borough does not make an effort to support the CHPS.
agreed. and the market house unfortunately never is full cpacity. i think they need to expand and have some crafters at stands.....maybe woodcarving, candleing, needlework, etc..some old school stuff! rent a month at a time and switch it up constantly. at least the market house will have stand s filled.
what a shame for the Historic Society...can they apply for any grants?? how about a town wide fundraiser..maybe some of the school kids could help go door to door...how about setting up boxes for donations at hinkles, muissers, stovers, columbia family, etc. every little bit could help!! if every adult in thye boro could donate even $5...that would mean a lot of money!!! (just a thought!)
