Due to bolloxed borough record-keeping, Frank Doutrich's name was added to a list for nonpayment of a bill. But Frank wasn't having it, since he knew he had made the payment. In order to show the borough its mistake in terms they couldn't ignore, Frank presented a blowup of the canceled check at Tuesday's Columbia Borough Council meeting.

A copy of this historic image hangs in borough hall. It's also featured in the mural along Front Street, at Eastern Drillers.

Team RWB was out for a hike on Sunday morning.

According to their website, Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) exists to guide veterans "with real-life and virtual opportunities focused on building a healthier lifestyle, because a strong focus on mental and physical health is critical to ensuring veterans’ best days are ahead."

Originally meant as an insult, it's now a label we proudly embrace.

Dozens gather to remember Elaina Smith

 

Over 50 people gathered at this afternoon's vigil in Locust Street Park to remember Elaina Smith. Members of the ministerium, including Pastor Mark Harris of Salem UCC and Pastor David Powers of Columbia Presbyterian, offered prayers of hope and comfort.

Homicide Charge Filed Regarding Columbia Incident, Suspect in Custody for Killing Ex-Girlfriend's Daughter | Columbia Borough Police Department

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office has approved a charge of criminal homicide against Jason Shackelford, 39 of Columbia, regarding the killing in Columbia on Feb. 8 into Feb. 9, 2023. 

Shackelford is currently in Lancaster County Prison. Shackelford was detained by East Lampeter Township Police and transported to the Columbia Borough Police Department to be interviewed on Feb. 10. 

During his interview with Columbia Borough Police, Shackelford admitted he raped and killed his girlfriend’s 12-year-old daughter (Victim 1) on the night of Feb. 8 into the morning of Feb. 9 at a home in the 500 block of Avenue H in Columbia. He stated he attempted to conceal the victim’s body in a freezer in the basement. During an initial search of the home by the Columbia Borough Police Department, police discovered the body of a juvenile female located inside a chest freezer in the basement of the home.
