Due to bolloxed borough record-keeping, Frank Doutrich's name was added to a list for nonpayment of a bill. But Frank wasn't having it, since he knew he had made the payment. In order to show the borough its mistake in terms they couldn't ignore, Frank presented a blowup of the canceled check at Tuesday's Columbia Borough Council meeting.

A copy of this historic image hangs in borough hall. It's also featured in the mural along Front Street, at Eastern Drillers.

A copy of the Columbia Borough Zoning Map hangs in the lobby of borough hall. You might be able to read some of the details by enlarging this photo.

Here it is a few days later.

Commemorative bricks line this design at Salem United Church of Christ on the 300 block of Walnut Street.

Here's the front of the building.

Here'sthe message board.

The inscription on this stone might translate to "Evangelical Lutheran Salems Church. A.D. 1860."

Columbians love their flags . . .

Here's a star perforated with stars.
OK.

Looks like someone tried to pry open this shutter in Avenue G. Unfortunately, for them, there's nothing but cement blocks behind it.

When you run out of mortar, just use that foamy stuff, like this.

When that old printer doesn't work anymore, just leave it in the back lot of the Turkey Hill store, like this. (Don't really do this.)

The burned-out houses on the 500 block of Locust are getting some attention.

The second-floor windows at 521 Locust were boarded up this week.

Trying to get home before nightfall

Some people with dogs should abide by this.

The river didn't exactly freeze this week, except for this strip at the bottom of the boat ramp.

Two military choppers flew over on Tuesday.

The mallards seem to be liking the cold water.

The Canada geese are back at River Park, so watch where you walk.

Well, that's certainly no way to park.

Team RWB was out for a hike on Sunday morning.

According to their website, Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) exists to guide veterans "with real-life and virtual opportunities focused on building a healthier lifestyle, because a strong focus on mental and physical health is critical to ensuring veterans’ best days are ahead."

Originally meant as an insult, it's now a label we proudly embrace.
