Two albatwitch sightings (here and below)

The Albatwitch Day Festival is Saturday, October 8, 2022.
Columbia Spy reported on the event in years past, including the first one in 2014:

About 10 of these black-hatted cyclists rode through town Saturday morning.

The ever-fascinating Mount Bethel Cemetery features many unique tombstones, some from back when drapery was king.

This marker features a humanoid form, most likely to memorialize an infant death.

This one's sinking fast.

Those downtown buildings have nothing on this apartment building.

This heron just wanted to be alone.

But these mallards kept encroaching.

Like unwanted company, they just wouldn't leave.

Community safety officer completes training at Columbia Borough school district

What happened: Superintendent Ashley Rizzo gave board members an update on areas the district is focused on for improvement during the 2022-23 school year.

School safety: Rizzo noted that Jordan Corbin, the district's new community safety officer, has finished training and will be starting at the district soon. Corbin will work for the district during the school year and the Columbia Borough Police Department during the summer. Rizzo said the district safety team has been active and has developed a school safety checklist as well as scheduled times for first responders to tour the district's facilities.

Columbia council waives parking fees for Discover Columbia Week promotion

When: Columbia Borough Council meeting, Sept. 13.

What happened: Council members waived downtown parking fees for four days of the nine-day Discover Columbia Week shopping promotion, which runs from Sept. 23 to Oct.1.

Details: Participants can park free of charge on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24, and Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. The Columbia Merchants Association originally had asked for free parking for the entire festival.

Quotable: "I have a hard time authorizing a week of free parking at the end of September when most of the stuff is happening Fridays and Saturdays," borough President Heather Zink said. "I worry that the free parking is going to be used by others and not the people you're trying to attract."
