Who spray-painted the bridge piers?

About a week ago, numbers were spray-painted on the piers of the Veterans Memorial Bridge. The numbers are in order, starting from the Wrightsville side, on the south side of the piers only. 




Fire at 6th & Walnut today

The Columbia Fire Department responded to a small fire at Sixth and Walnut Streets this afternoon.

Jersey Surf plays at CHS Saturday


Jersey Surf gave a free concert Saturday night at the Columbia High School stadium. Members have been putting in 14-hour days to practice for competitions, parades, and other events.

School board passes 2017-18 budget at special meeting

The Columbia School Board passed the final 2017-18 budget at a special meeting Wednesday afternoon. The budget includes a tax increase of .8508 mills, or 2.9%, which is within the district's approved index of 3.7% and uses $800,000 of the fund balance, leaving $250,000 in budgetary reserve. The real estate tax for 2017-18 will be 30.1908 mills.
