About town

Seen today . . .

Officer Keyser is on the job

Officer Keyser took time to talk to teens today at Locust Street Park.  We hope they were listening.  Thanks, Officer Keyser, for taking the initiative.

Bomb cars at Columbia Plaza

A little red engine that could was busy squirreling away oil cars (aka "bomb cars") behind Sahd Salvage today after hauling them on tracks running along Shawnee Creek. Traffic on Route 462, near Columbia Plaza, was snared with every crossing of the train. Let's hope and pray the cars are empty.  At last month's meeting of the whole, Councillor Barry Ford said if such cars blow, the explosion could claim a large portion of the town.

Follow-up to Makle takedown . . . Police: Columbia woman was assaulted 'for several hours' before alleged attacker arrested

Takedown at Makle

Officers from several local police departments converged on Makle Park this afternoon at about 5 o'clock to apprehend a suspect.  After staging the operation on the 500 block of Union Street, personnel from Columbia Borough, West Hempfield, and Susquehanna Regional police departments took the suspect into custody at the conclusion of a basketball tournament being held at the park.

Everyone loves Loreto's

Loreto's tomato sauce - from Columbia

One for the impound yard

After a pursuit across the Veterans Memorial Bridge, Wrightsville police stopped a vehicle on the Columbia side at about 3 o'clock this afternoon.  The silver Jeep Grand Cherokee was missing a license plate and was impounded.  Police also recovered evidence from the vehicle (seen in the third photo below). Unfortunately, Columbia Spy was unable to determine the fate of the driver.

Sometimes a sidewalk is just a living room

Set out the old sofa and fire up the Hibachi.  Sometimes a sidewalk is just an extension of your living room. And yet, some businesses would need a variance to do the same.

It's coming up

Traffic control devices being installed

Traffic control devices are being installed at Front and Walnut as part of the Route 441 bypass project.

The town's going to the dogs

At least they're patriotic.

Rotary Park, man, can you dig it?

I guess so, if this is any indication . . .

A man with a metal detector and a spade shovel was digging up the park this afternoon.

Good thing that video surveillance was in effect.
(At least what's presented on this site.)
