Yard Waste pick up begins Monday, April 6, 2015. Yard waste must be free of trash and rubbish. NO DIRT! The Borough Farm which is located at 254 Blue Lane is open the second Saturday of each month from 7 am to 12pm for drop -off of trees, shrubs, grass clippings, limbs, etc.

Police chase ends on Manor Street

A police chase through East and West Hempfield this afternoon ended near Fifteenth and Manor Streets in Columbia when an East Hempfield police cruiser blocked the path of the suspect's vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by police at about 4:30 p.m. The suspect has been identified as Joshua Oscar Welsh, 39, of Wrightsville, who fled the scene after attempting to rob Integrity Bank on Centerville Road. Seven vehicles from the three jurisdictions were involved in the pursuit.

Dog Wardens/Police to Conduct License, Rabies Compliance Checks

The State Dog Wardens and the Columbia Borough Police will   be conducting compliance checks during the Month of April.   Officers will canvass homes to ensure that dogs have a current license and rabies vaccination.

The Police as well as the State Dept. of Agriculture    remind dog owners that a license is one of the best ways to ensure a lost dog is returned home safely.    Under PA law, all dogs three months or older must be licensed by January 1 of each year.  Violators can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation plus court costs.

Locust Street Park regulations now enforced

A local resident points to the regulations for Locust Street Park to remind police to patrol and enforce. Warmer weather is on tap for this coming week, which will encourage people to congregate in the park, and last year saw a lot of vandalism there. At its November 10, 2014 meeting, Columbia Borough Council voted unanimously to give police enforcement powers in the park.
