Not sure what is next for them but was this the right time for this to happen? You talk to every fire co and all you hear is how short of volunteers they are and here in wonderful Columbia we shut down a fire co because they don't agree with the way a merger is happening. Columbia is no exception to dwindling volunteer numbers and I think we should be very glad we have the ones we do not cutting numbers.

Hmmmm maybe QRS.

I have no connections to any of these fire departments but since some of my tax dollar goes to support the departments I would like to know the facts surrounding the merger. I have been hearing the Columbia #1 is deep in debt which did not concern me at first. I then read part of the merger would involve the consolidated company selling off some of their equipment. Now I am concerned. Is this merger simply a tool to help bail out a department with financial difficulties? I have been reading bits and pieces about this merger but I believe now is the time have complete transparency, I, as a homeowner, would have no problem paying a small fire tax to help if the departments are struggling.

I am curious how the QRS plays into this. Can someone please explain?

I believe the fire company was shut down due to the lack of volunteers at that specific firehouse and heard they were not getting out to the calls in their very own neighborhood. It was actually done to protect our residents.

Shut down because they would not sign the merger agreement. Not for the lack of volunteers, all volunteer departments in the county are hurting for more help.

You can stop by CCFD and ask any member whats going on with their station. New board of directors was put in place with many QRS members elected as board members with Splain leading.

Next step start using liquor license that the station owns and have a private club for QRS fundraising. Ask Frank.

CCFD (or the organization formally known as) had a Special Occasion liquor license issued... if you look on the PLCB website in their database, the license is marked "inactive" so FRANKly, it is possible a few things m a year need exSPLAINed as to why it may need to be active again for Club Q, Or Club 8, whatever someone wants to call it....

seriously this merger has been in the works for YEARS. and now, they decide no. theres more to this story than meets the eye.....and i do NOT believe it to be the merger/consolidation. the most important thing here is to protect our residents. this co is ALL ABOUT DRAMA.......like a bunch of school girls.

Keep your eyes open, pretty soon you'll see the QRS parking their vehicles here and the CCFD sign changed to QRS8.
