Judge rules in favor of parole agent in Columbia man's excessive force complaint
Judge Edward G. Smith granted state parole agent Scott Lapp's motion for summary judgment filed in response to Matthew Grab's complaint alleging excessive force. The decision was handed down on January 10, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and closes Grab's two-year legal battle.
The case stems from a May 10, 2018 incident in which Grab claims Lapp and Columbia Borough Police officers used excessive force while apprehending him in the 100 block of North 6th Street in Columbia. (Grab was taken into custody and charged with one count of Possession With Intent to Deliver Cocaine, according to the police report. He pled guilty to the charge in November 2018.)
In April 2020, Grab sued Lapp, Columbia Borough, and officers of the Columbia Borough Police Department. In March 2021, the court approved three stipulations that voluntarily dismissed all defendants, except for Agent Lapp. Lapp then filed the motion for summary judgment against the amended complaint, which led to last week's decision.

However, the press release incorrectly states the date of the incident as April 18, 2020, instead of the correct date, May 10, 2018. The release also incorrectly states the name of officer Brent Keyser as "Brett Keyser." Additionally, the release refers to the "Easter" District instead of the Eastern District.

J'Von Collazo scores 31 points as Columbia boys edge Trinity to remain unbeaten, improve to 13-0
The Columbia boys basketball passed another test Tuesday night to remain undefeated. The host Tide topped Trinity, 75-64, inside Elmer Kreiser Gymnasium to improve to 13-0, continuing the program's best start to a season in 31 years.

Columbia is off to its best start in 31 years - the 1990-91 squad went a perfect 24-0 in the regular season before losing to CV in the L-L semifinals. That was just the second Columbia squad to begin the year with 22-straight wins (the 1956 squad went 22-0 before losing in the Class 2A state quarterfinals).
