This summer's mayfly invasion isn't over. In fact, it's barely begun. These photos were taken this morning (July 8) at Columbia River Park (and uptown) and show the results of last night's assault.
Has the Columbia Spy noticed the new Trolley Stop sign posted at Turkey Hill Experience? No parking for riders of the Trolley , parking available at other sites. Seems who ever is making the decisions for "The Experience" forgot all the animosity caused when they picked that spot to open. There was a battle over a property line, tax breaks, tax dollars being spent, the list goes on. If he won't permit a few parking spaces maybe remove them from the stop and replace the opening with our revamped River Park! I find this sign shocking and rather rude Mr. Experience.
mayflies have always been around....for years and years...but only the white ones and they only lasted 2 to 3 weeks. what's the reason for all this the past few years?
Yes, I parked there once to catch a trolley ride and upon returning was reprimanded. I said well the lot was rather empty at the time. The answer was: That does not matter you cannot park in the lot. The lot remains open for THE customers only.
Parking at the Experience is a pet peeve of mine. Many years ago, before the experience, I used the upper lot next to the old mill as a place to park for park and ride. My co-workers and I used it a lot to car pool. When the experience arrived, they banned the park and ride. With that, we simply meet on Linden Street, across from the experience, as there was ample parking. Then signs were posted making this PUBLIC street parking only for customers. We now use the park and ride off Prospect Road though it is a bit out of the way for some of the people I ride with who live in the Marietta area.
The River Park is what it is now,, as taxpayers we can only hope somehow it generates income to cover expense. And yes there are ways to accomplish that when all personal agendas get set aside! Turkey Hill Experience the store lost my business within the first few months of opening. My choice and I stand by it to this day. I agree " The Experience " has done nothing for the taxpayers of the community. And now this slap in the face??? RIDICULOUS! Take them off the stop, add River Park or maybe the Clock Museum, anywhere but there. Keep on ROLLING AHEAD TROLLEY.
The River Park is not a joke. What it is, is crowded and attracting many visitors to Columbia. It was one of the best ideas ever for Columbia. As for the trolley, even people from Columbia that ride it are getting a history lesson. In turn, we are all learning to appreciate our town.
You are a not very well informed tax paying citizen. Please get your facts correct before responding! The borough has not raised our property taxes for at least the last eight years! Now, you might be referring to our Columbia school taxes. The school taxes escalate every year! The borough has no control of our school taxes! I'm told there will be at least two spots open on The school board, maybe you will consider putting your name in & trying to make a difference in finding a solution to our high school taxes & lowering them! Please research the facts before responding!
With openings on school board and council, maybe some of the constant complainers should run for office or serve on a commission or board.(zoning, planning, civil service). You will find out that the jobs aren't as easy as what you think. I served on both council and planning and I found out. As a taxpayer , I may not always agree with their decisions, but I respect those who serve.
Council turned away residents that were well qualified for their personal picks. Who are you kidding, cop out? Those that aren't in the super clique are not wanted. Not a cop out, just OUT!
What has the trolley (SIC) done to help the taxpayers? All we do is foot the bill for that no-bid contract. Can't really defend one and bash the other. That would be RIDICULOUS! (said in my best Professor Lupin voice).

I see your point and it is very sad that this once family operated business is not more community friendly. After all they are in Columbia by choice.
Actually the trolly already stops at River Park and the clock museum.

Once again you are missing the point! Are taxes are through the roof! They the borough should be concentrating on lowering taxes,, FIRST!!!

The constant complainers can run for vacant seats all they want, they will NEVER stand a chance of getting on board or council.
The constant complainers are on the right track!! Its politics as usual in COLUMBIA!!The whole school and borough offices need AUDITED!!!!!!!!!!!
What a cop out excuse not to get involved! Taking the easy way out, just keep complaining! You will go nowhere.

How about RIVERTOWN ANTIQUES? THEY CAN USE THE BORO PARKING LOT AT FRONT AND LOCUST.
NO ONE ELSE DOES
Drug test WELFARE RECIPIENTS
Lousy pot-smoking mayflies!
