Columbia opened defense of its Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 4 girls basketball championship Thursday night.

After a herky-jerky start, the Crimson Tide was finally able to punch it into fifth gear and pull away from pesky Pequea Valley.

Brie Droege scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second half, Brooke Droege had eight points and 10 rebounds, Sehrena Finks-Garcia had 11 points and seven boards, and host Columbia beat the Braves 50-27.

"They battle like crazy," Tide coach Karl Kreiser said about Pequea Valley. "But we finally figured it out."
