Restaurant Inspections - Columbia Borough - November 24, 2023


Columbia High School, 901 Ironville Pike, Columbia, Nov. 14. Pass. Raw shell eggs stored above cheese in the walk-in cooler.

Rocky's BBQ, 28 N. Third St., Columbia, follow-up, Nov. 14. Pass. No violations.

Smith's Hotel, 1030 Lancaster Ave., Columbia, Nov. 14. Pass. Boxes of cheese and bags of bread stored directly on the floor in the walk-in freezer, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Wafer steaks thawing at room temperature on the table in the basement, which is not an approved thawing method. Mold growing on the dispensing part of the slushie machine. A pink residue on the deflector of the ice maker. Toilet Room door off of the food preparation area, was open and not kept closed as required. A working container of dish detergent and a can of Lubriquik was being stored on a bottom shelf of a table with food equipment. A large container of hand-gel cleaner stored on a shelf with drinking cups in the basement.

V & G Sabor Boricua, 438 1/2 Locust St., Columbia, Nov. 14. Fail. Raw shell eggs stored above pork in the refrigerator. The food facility does not maintain Food Employee Certification records as required; repeat violation of 2021, 2022 and 2023. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodent activity in the middle and back food preparation area as evidenced by mouse feces in cabinets, on the floors, in back of equipment, and all around the floor/wall juncture; repeat violation April 21.

Jeremiah's Cupboard dishes up love | TownLively


"We are a small ministry, but we do a lot," said pastor Robert Middleton of Jeremiah's Cupboard. He's not kidding. The Columbia nonprofit regularly offers free meals to the community, and it will serve a free holiday dinner on Saturday, Dec. 23, from noon to 6 p.m. in the social hall behind Salem United Church of Christ, 324 Walnut St.
