"Women Veterans" is the theme of Columbia's Memorial Day Parade 2022

Columbia Memorial Day Parade will be held Sunday, May 29, beginning at noon. Event kicks off with Bainbridge Band Patriotic concert in Locust St. Park in the Gazebo, followed by Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. with speaker Jeffrey G. Butch, remarks from the mayor, a ceremonial wreath laying and a 21-gun salute, followed by playing of “Taps.” The parade, with women veterans as the theme, will start at 2:30.

Man sentenced up to 12 years in state prison for burglarizing Columbia apartment at 7 a.m.

MAY 26, 2022 
A man will serve 5 ½ to 12 years in state prison after pleading guilty to burglarizing a Columbia home and being sentenced by Lancaster County Judge Howard Knisely last week. 

John Roy Gerfin, 54, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of burglary after he entered an apartment in the 200 block of North Second St. occupied by a mother and her 11-year-old daughter on December 16, 2021, around 6:59 a.m. He was sentenced last Thursday.

Columbia Borough tweaks start and end times for high and middle school

Currently Columbia Borough middle and high school students start their school day at 7:50 a.m. The middle school dismisses at 2:40 p.m. and the high school dismisses at 2:50 p.m. Under the new schedule, both middle and high school students will start at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3:05 p.m. The changes will not affect the amount of instructional time students receive each day.

Preliminary Hearing: Columbia Man Held for Court on Club Twenty3 Killing in March | Lancaster County District Attorney's Office

A Columbia man will face 11 charges in the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas following a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon in the Lancaster County Courthouse before Magisterial District Judge David P. Miller. The evidence presented at the hearing was sufficient to hold over the charges against Tyler Jamar Wilson, 28 of the 200 block of S. 4th Street, regarding the killing of 25-year-old Jatavis Scott at Club Twenty3 in Manheim Township around 1:23 a.m. on March 19.

16 YEAR OLD MALE FOUND TO BE IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM | Columbia Borough Police Department

On 5/24/22 at approximately 8:00pm, in the 100 block of North 6th Street, a 16-year-old male was found to be in possession of a fully loaded Smith & Wesson, .380 caliber handgun that was concealed in his waistband.  He was placed under arrest and charged with several violations of the Uniform Firearms Act.  He was committed to the Youth Intervention Center. Some like it hot. Step inside the cold heart of Columbia’s St. Charles Furnace


Located on the edge of Columbia near the banks of the Susquehanna River hidden in the brush is the abandoned ruins of the St. Charles Furnace. While you can safely climb inside the structure today, things would have been very different 150 years ago when the internal temperature ranged between 1,600 and 2,300°F.
