HazMat team responds to hazardous chemical spill in Columbia



**Incident Summary:**

- **Location:** 400 block of Avenue H

- **Time:** Friday at 12:05 p.m.

- **Cause:** Reportedly, dry cleaning chemicals spilled from the vicinity of the former Eichhorn's building (rear)

- **Response:** Hazmat team called to handle cleanup

- **Traffic Impact:** 400 block of Avenue H closed to through traffic, first block of North 4th Street partially blocked.

George Christopher's, 15 S. Third St., Columbia, June 13. Pass. No violations.

Black Olive Family Diner, 1506 Lancaster Ave., Columbia, June 10. Fail. Food Employees eating in production areas as evidenced by beverage containers in the walk-in cooler and near the waffle maker; corrected, previous violation, April 18, 2024. The person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this noncompliant inspection. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in bain-marie and reach-in refrigerated equipment; corrected. Crab meat in the can was held at 46 F, in the bain-marie near walk-in cooler, rather than 38 F or below as required; corrected, voluntarily discarded. Observed a grayish residual underneath the nozzles of the soda fountain and on the deflector plate of the interior of the ice machine near the restrooms. Observed door in the back of the kitchen to opened, unscreened and not protecting against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals; corrected. Working containers of machinery lubricants were stored on top of the reach-in refrigerator; corrected. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Observed food debris and clogging in hand sink at server's station and improper mixing of hot and cold water at hand-wash sink in cook's prep area.
