Adorers of the Blood of Christ return to court to fight gas pipeline on its property

The Adorers of the Blood of Christ have returned to court arguing that the existence of a 3-year-old natural gas pipeline through their land in Pennsylvania violates their religious freedom rights guaranteed under a 1993 law.

Wrightsville council president calls police to escort resident from meeting

Wrightsville Borough Council President Eric J. White stopped the April 5 council meeting and called 911 after a resident interrupted a discussion of a resolution pressuring the local municipal authority to sell the water and sewer systems to a private company.

White banged his gavel several times and told Mel McDonald that she was not allowed to comment on the matter. Public comment was held at the beginning of the meeting, at which time McDonald was the sole resident to offer any.

McDonald, wife of council member Rick McDonald, who has attended meetings via conference call during the pandemic, refused to leave voluntarily even after Vice President Frederick C. Smith Jr. asked her politely.

She said nothing during the 10 minutes it took for a Hellam Township police officer to arrive. The officer escorted her from council chambers without incident.

Penn State Health to buy ambulance association that serves Hempfield hospital's market

Michael Fitzgibbons knows his organization can't swim upstream forever.

As president and CEO of Susquehanna Valley Emergency Medical Services, he knows that the relentless financial current of rising costs and falling reimbursements is making it harder than ever to keep ambulance associations like his moving forward.

So about a year ago, Fitzgibbons decided that the county's second busiest ambulance association would be smart to get help from a bigger and stronger organization — Penn State Health.
