This is a sad day for columbia, now ask the council, how they plan on revidalizing a town that has nothing!!!!! There is nothing here,

Columbia is doomed.

Very, very, sad for all of us. I'm wondering how our elected officials will spin this in a positive direction. I hope it doesn't sit empty, especially since the market will be closing in December. If the borough offices go through with the move to a new location, that will be another empty building in the same area. Truly a ghost town.

They need to make this a priority. Don't talk, do something

No more double dipping!!

Very sad another antique shop in the works

I'm sure our elected officials already knew this was happening.
It's a slow expensive death we are dying.

Columbia Borough should buy the building immediately so that it doesn't get in to the wrong hands.

If we would had followed the vision of some back in the 80s involving a pedestrian mall full of antique shops we would be much better off. Instead we followed the foolish vision of those who thought we could maintain a downtown business district as we had in the 50's.

Do you really think the Market House was bringing people to the down town ?

Parking meters!
Drugs for sale!
Dog Poop!

Lol....that WOULD be the wrong hands!!!

Ha! I know that was a joke haha!! The borough has done wonders with the buildings they have purchased. So many of Columbia's residents live in poverty, a business coming into this town that has quality merchandise will not be able to sell it to very many locals. They would have to be able to draw people in from other places, otherwise they're not going to make any sales.

That's so true, the locals always get the short end of the stick when towns like Columbia start to boom

no worries, Columbia is not booming.

When a resilient business like this folds in Columbia, what hope is there for this town. When will our leaders realize we can't stay independent. Paying for our own police force, municipal workers, & Scholl district is killing us.

One business closing isn't going to make a big difference !

One after another after another.
I think it makes a big difference.

When there are many businesses maybe not. In a ghost town it is.

One business closing is completely different, than THIS business closing. This business has been an anchor for our community. All of us today have had Hinkles in our town since we were born. We do not know Columbia without it, I had hoped we never would.

it won't make a difference

Anonymous said...

yes it will

Maybe you're right, it won't make a difference because the town was dying before Hinkles announced it's closing, now it will finally be dead.
