Today around noon, I noticed footprints on the ice down by the old bridge. The ice was only about an inch thick along shore, but someone had to try walking on it anyway.
I've heard tales of how, during some severe winters in the 1950s, guys would drive cars - on the ice - across to Wrightsville.
No thanks.

my parents were just talking yesterday about how they remember being kids and watching people race snowmobiles on the river when the ice was thick enough 1970s-early 90s. hasn't frozen that thick in a long time...
You're right. Overall, winters do seem to be getting milder - with a few notable exceptions.
