Columbia Borough School District to receive $1.1M more in state funding than it budgeted for | Community News | lancasteronline.com
When: Columbia Borough school board committee meeting, Aug. 6.
What happened: The district will receive $1.1 million more in state funding than it budgeted for in June, Keith Ramsey, business manager, shared with the board.
Background: The Columbia Borough school board passed its 2024-25 budget June 20, while Gov. Josh Shapiro didn’t sign the state budget into law until July 11. Therefore, when Columbia passed its budget, it didn’t have all state funding information available.
Now: Now that the district has received information about its state subsidies, Ramsey shared the district will receive $11.1 million in basic education funding and almost $2 million in special education funding. Columbia Borough will also receive $140,905 as reimbursement for borough students enrolled in cybercharter schools. In addition, the district will receive a $1.1 million Ready to Learn Block Grant, which is $800,000 more than it budgeted for.

Rivertown Pride Center shuts down in Columbia | Local News | lancasteronline.com
A Reading-based LGBTQ organization serving Lancaster County has closed its satellite location in Columbia.
Organizational changes and lack of funding lead to the closure of Columbia Rivertown Pride Center, which had been operated by the LGBT Center of Greater Reading. Located at 324 Walnut St., the Columbia center closed Thursday.
The center, which opened in the summer 2023, provided a welcoming space for youth and adults, especially those who identify as LGBTQ+, as well as those who question their identity. The center offered space for students to do homework, relax, play games, spend time with and meet new friends. It also provided basic hygiene supplies, a small food pantry and clothing, according to its website.
