Columbia Borough School Board announces vacancies


FRIDAY, AUGUST 02, 2019

Columbia School Board President, Keith Combs, announced the the Board has 2 vacancies to fill. The selected individuals will serve as a member of the Board from appointment until November 30, 2019.

Interested individuals should send, or deliver, a letter of interest to:

Letters of interest must be received in the District office by 4 pm August 12, 2019

Interviews will be held Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 6 pm.

Qualifications for Board

Each member of the Board shall meet the following qualifications:
Be of good moral character, be at least eighteen (18) years of age, have been a resident of the district for at least one (1) year prior to the date of his/her election or appointment, and not be a holder of any office or position as specified in Section 322 of the School Code; nor shall the individual be a member of the municipal council.[3]

Shall not have been removed from any office of trust under federal, state or local laws for any malfeasance in such office.[4]

Shall not be engaged in a business transaction with the school district, be employed by the school district, or receive pay for services from the school district, except as provided by law.[25][5]

Crystle, of the Lancaster city firm Crystle-Allen Law, is now hoping to apply what he's learned to Lancaster County's top law enforcement position. In May, he secured the Democratic nomination for district attorney.

Third Prayer Walk/Vigil slated for Thursday, August 1


Tonight (Thursday, August 1) is the third and final night for the prayer walk and vigil in remembrance of 19-year-old Nick Mills, who was shot and killed Monday night in Columbia. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. at North Third and Walnut Street in Columbia where Mills died. Several local churches and residents citizens will be attending.

Pastor Angelo Rodriguez of Columbia's Itlm Faith Community Church, who will lead the event, has invited community persons of influence to attend.

A Columbia man was charged with arson and simple assault after a small fire in a Columbia house on Wednesday night. 
Police said that Derrick Demar Mearis, 30, of Columbia, lit a pile of clothes on fire with a Turbo Torch after a fight with one man and after hitting another man, who tried to stop the fight, in the head.
