    3. So where do you think ALL of the components for the pergola on the front cover of the magazine came from? Perhaps you should confer with the owners of the local antique stores before you make such a judgmental and asinine comment. Wondering how much YOU invest of your money in shopping locally, ANONYMOUS???? At least I have the guts to put my name to my comment.

PS- We garden mainly for our pleasure and to share with family, friends, and supporters of Columbia. If you did not like the article, feel free to stop reading. To all of the negative commenters below, thanks for your support. Columbia proud??!!

    4. What happened to the 8.6 million dollars Mr Murphy? (Columbia council president) This should not be a hard question to answer. Public records are impossible to get out of Columbia just ask the spy.

    5. COLUMBIA PROUD WAS A SAYING IN THE EIGHTYS AND LONG GONE,it stoped when the police stopped arresting people , and Lancaster infiltrated this town. Please MR Lutz and MR MURPHY hold people accountable and get the proud back. PS a police dog wood help ask the crimenals, they don't like dogs that are trained .

    7. Are you going to paint the poles Mr Murphy?? The borough is telling people they have to paint, the metal is a little sabby too. Maybe Jeff will make a exception, maybe he will be afraid of you or think you might sue.

    8. In the article it says the post came from central manor, other things came from Strasburg and other places so is there a need to confer? Maybe you should reread the mag article before you comment. As far as my money ,I try to keep it in town and can tell you I have way more invested in Columbia than you and the way this council is spending tax money it scares the hell out of most people in town.If you wood answer some of the questions it might help people understand this madness. Wheres the 8.6 million and way no police dog, it should not matter what the mayor says Columbia has a bad drug problem and a dog makes a huge difference. Thank you Your garden looks great, it had to be a lot of work ENJOY IT.

    10. the posts are chipping codes will be in your yard as they are going from porch to porch and making people paint . please understand you are not special you have more chipping post than the people that are getting notice that they must paint them. don't try the use of excuse they are chipping and that is a fact.

  2. What is the codes dept going to do about the flaking paint on the poles, some people already received certified letters that they have about 60 days to clean and repaint parts of there homes, or is this going to be more of the Helm selective enforcement??

    1. It's going to be more selective enforcement! Gave out those letters in the middle of January too.

    2. Want to sink this town? Jeff Helm for mayor.

    3. They should have fired Helm 40 years ago.

  3. There has to be something illegal about quick tickets for flaking paint, i really think people need to consult a lawyer over some of the stupid crap this town comes up with, the way there pushing tickets is kind of like they own your own home, its b.s

    1. There is no due process. That is unconstitutional. But some borough officials probably think they are above that pesky piece of parchment.

    2. Put up 100 to fight it and not get it back? Some bodies way wrong here.

  4. Yes the citizens are getting the shaft , cleaning up the town is needed, BUT Jeff Helm left it get this way by his lack of doing his job, letting some people go because he was afraid of law suits or body harm, Columbia can't expect to have citizens clean up 20 plus years of a lack of enforcement in one or 2 years, and by pushing all ready straped people (WITH ALL READY TO HIGH TAXS) BY FINES AND TIME LIMITS.This borough throws money away, now it will make citizens pay fines for paint etc..Most of the codes people don't live here,so it is easy to write up things.Maybe it is time to get a attorney to go after these officals. The trend with Helm was one person had no worry and the next got all the hassel. The mayor parking shows he thinks he is above the law,and now the river park (MONEY PIT) MAY get grants up to 300,000 dollars that have to be matched by the town each year,GUESS WHOS PAYING THIS, WE all ready pay s.hertiage 115,000 dollars a year to manage it + 11,000 for the trolley. WHAT ARE THE COUNCIL TRYING TO DO BANKRUP THE BOROUGH? Or just make it imposable to live and retire here. Oh just one more thing WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 8.6 MILLION DOLLARS THAT CAME FROM THE SALE OF THE SEWER SYSTEM,the officals change the subject when this comes up.

    1. Jim Smith was smart enough to make sure it was put into CD's but the council after him just borrowed against it. How sad.....

  6. It was stated here on the spy no elected official should have a problem answering a question or gets mad or should step down.

  8. Conservative....or thoughtful. Always have been and always will be. Remember I live here too and pay these same taxes. We have not raised taxes in 10 years. Find another borough that can say that. Kelly Murphy

    1. Taxes are all ready to high, why don't the borough include trash collection? This town wood be cleaner, Wrighsville and Marietta and York all have it,we might not need spring clean up if we had this...........POLICE DOG TOO.

    2. PS WE ALL ARE STILL WAITING FOR ANSWERS.

  9. Where is the 8.6 million dollars, it is a simple question. One other question way has the mayors next store neighbor put in a 4+ foot retaining wall with no permit? He (MAYOR)pulls in to his drive way every day it is less than 70 feet away? A wall and a backhoe aren't hard to see. SLECTIVE ENFORCMENT not just by Jeff Helm. Who is the boss at the borough any way,the citizens see what a mess it is....COLUMBIA NEEDS HELP,A BOSS WHO CAN MAKE THING EQUAL, INFORM CITIZENS OF WHAT THE BOROUGH IS DOING OR THINKING OF DOING, NOT THE BACK DOOR,UNDERHANDED,BACK SLAPPING,AND FAVORTISM THAT THE MAYOR AND ZONING OFFICER(or what ever the paper shuffler is called now)have been doing.

  10. 10 years it seams like the borough has to much money have we been over charged 10 years, and now because of a lackadazital zoning officer we are being fined for what was let go. It can not be cleaned up in a year, maybe the borough should give tax rebates or some insentive to clean up Helms mess.
