Father Time at the Watch & Clock Museum Event Today!
Ring in the New Year with Father Time and Baby New Year at the place that is the center of time—The National Watch and Clock Museum. The Museum’s New Year’s Eve at Noon event on December 31 is the only local New Year’s Eve party designed specifically for children during daylight hours.
Children will learn about the passage of time using traditional adult activities presented in a child-friendly manner. As part of the traditional celebration, the Museum will host a countdown with Father Time, complete with a balloon drop at the strike of noon. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Father Time will lead guests in a dance party full of fun and swinging music.

Advanced registration is not necessary and all activities are included with regular paid admission of adults $9, senior citizens $8, children age 5-16 $5, children younger than 5 free, and a family rate of $23. For additional information, contact 717.684.8261, ext. 237.
The National Watch and Clock Museum is operated by the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) association with close to 14,000 members, representing 52 countries. April through November the Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. December through March hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. From Memorial Day through Labor Day the Museum is also open on Mondays. Discounts are available to seniors, students, AAA members, and groups of 10 or more. Groups of 10 or more are encouraged to call ahead. - Enjoy a special New Year’s Eve story time
- Create a time capsule to remember 2016
- Write your resolutions for 2017 on Resolution Wall
- Decorate a cookie like a clock face with Rivertownes PA, USA and enjoy it as a snack afterward
- Accessorize with glitter tattoos and face painting by Mimzy’s Face Painting

Anglers angry over yet another fish kill at Brunner Island power plant on Susquehanna
An angler told LNP that water temperatures in the discharge channel had risen to 70 degrees on Dec. 18, while the river only a few hundred yards away was 35 degrees — a condition ripe for a fish kills, according to the angler.

The sidewalk is sinking. Two transformers were installed under the sidewalks on both sides of the 100 block of Locust Street on November 23. Columbia Spy reported on the installation HERE. Shortly afterward, however, these areas began to sink, particularly on the north side, shown below. Currently, the sidewalk is not passable via wheelchair, pipes are exposed, and the area presents a tripping hazard . . .

DEP investigating fish kill in Susquehanna River south of Brunner Island
YORK COUNTY, Pa. – The Pa Department of Environmental Protection is trying to figure out what killed the fish found floating in the Susquehanna River just south of Brunner Island Steam Electric Station.

Columbia man finds antlers at Chiques, gets cited by Game Commission
Information posted with the photo indicated the buck was found dead by a hunter in the woods off Route 441 in the vicinity of Chickies Hill, West Hempfield Township.

Over the river and through the woods on the way to grandmother's house, we came upon these spectacular night lights:
Vehicle accident at the bridge - one totaled
A two-vehicle accident occurred Thursday shortly before 3 p.m. near the entrance to the Veterans Memorial Bridge. According to witnesses, the driver of a Nissan Murano traveling south on North Second Street failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a Chevy Silverado heading west on Route 462. Both vehicles sustained front end damage, and an air bag deployed in the Nissan. The Nissan driver told Columbia Spy that his vehicle was worth about $7,000. He believed it to be totaled. The intersection was closed for over an hour as personnel investigated.

Vandal punctures tires on 20 vehicles in Columbia in 2nd crime spree this week
An "edged object" was used to slash about 35 tires, causing $3,000 to $4,000 damage, to vehicles in the Wagon Werks Apartments parking lot in the 900 block of Plane Street, borough Detective Matt Leddy said. No other damage was reported in the 10 p.m. incident.

50 tires slashed at Wagon Werks Tuesday night
50 tires on 20 vehicles were slashed in the parking lot of Wagon Werks Apartments, a source tells Columbia Spy. The incident occurred Tuesday night shortly after 10 p.m. Surveillance footage from cameras on one of the apartment buildings shows a man apparently leaving the building, then randomly vandalizing vehicle tires.

Criminal mischief, thefts in town
The Columbia Borough Police Department is handling a large number of criminal mischief and theft cases that occurred sometime between Sunday 12-18-16 and Monday 12-19-16. It is believed that all the events occurred during the overnight hours. A large number of vehicle mirrors have been removed from vehicles anywhere from the intersection of 4th St. and Walnut St. to 2nd St. and Mill St. areas. There was also damage done to a soda machine and to a building as well. With the large number of calls being received we are behind in getting to some of you. If you haven't received a message or heard from an officer in over 2 hours please call into the police station.
If you had damage or something missing from your vehicle or property, you are encouraged to report it to the police if not already done so. We are asking residents in the areas affected to check their home surveillance systems if you have one to see if anyone can be seen that may have done this. If you have information on who may have done this you are asked to call the police station at 717-684-7735 or submit a tip below.

Columbia volunteers distribute food, toys to needy families
Paul Resch, vice president of the Columbia Lions Club — which organizes the event with the Sunsnappers men's service club and other local groups — said that 545 area children were to receive toys Sunday.
